ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Running in heat one, lane two of the London 2012 Olympics Women’s 100m Tahesia Harrigan- Scott ran a season’s Best time of 11.59 seconds, today Friday August 3, 2012, but unfortunately it was not enough for her to progress as she finished 7th in her heat.

Such was the strength of the field that not even Harrigan- Scott’s Personal Best of 11.13 seconds would have qualified her from the heat which was won in fine style by Trinidad and Tobago’s Kelly Ann-Baptiste in 10.96. Second was Myriam Soumare from France in 11.07 and the third and final qualifier Verna Sailor in 11.12 from Germany.

Jamaal Alexander will be running in heat 3 of the 100m Men’s Preliminaries, tomorrow, Saturday August 4, at a little after 5 a.m. Local Time. He hast the fourth fastest Season’s Best time (10.80) in the Heat and the main threats to him progressing to the next round will come from Berenger Aymanrd Bosse, the Central African Republic runner who has a season’s Best of 10.38 and Foo Ee Yeo from Singapore ,who has a best this season of 10.62.

Despite Harrigan-Scott failing to progress, spare a thought for the historic run for Qatar's first female Olympic track athlete, Noor Al-Malki, which was ended by injury.

The 17-year-old failed to finish her 100m heat after appearing to pull a hamstring as she came out of the blocks at London's Olympic stadium.

Al-Malki, dressed in a maroon running suit and cap, limped off the track with the help of officials after bursting into tears.

Al-Malki, with a personal best time of 12.73 secs, was not expected to qualify from her preliminary heat - won by Congo's Lorene Bazolo in 11.87 - but her appearance was regarded as historically important.

Yes she proudly carried the BVI name while this new site is trying to promote it as just the VI. Guess who was carrying the Virgin Islands name marching into the stadium. the USVI. What a thing to tell the king. What do you have to say about VINO???????????
