Sylvester hits back at incumbent over “grand pictures” statement
He was at the time referring to the East End Harbour development initiative, which he envisions to be transformed into a mega yacht facility and which Hon. Penn had recently told residents in the district to not be fooled by the “grand pictures you are seeing for development there. We know this community and the history of land ownership including at that waterfront.”
But according to Mr. Sylvester, he was not before the people to complain but to encourage them to start moving with the vision of development. “We can no longer have government coming before us and not telling us how they are going to vision and move this country forward. We must be able to know where we are going. There must be a 20/20 vision, there must be a 20/40 vision, there must be a 20/60 vision because this elections you are voting for your children, grandchildren and your retirement.”
Mr. Sylvester further said he believes that in everything we do there must be a vision and explained that even in his profession as an executive he has to sell his vision. “Yes some pretty pictures were put before you but these pretty pictures before you are the vision. You cannot go to people to settle land deals and settle land matters and not tell them where the vision is. You are wasting your time. You are not going to get anywhere. The minute you show them the vision they buy into it.”
Showing once again to the public a graphic impression of his vision for the East End Harbour development, it was said that components of the mega yacht facility would include an arrival centre, a fueling facility with duty free prices, a five star hotel, a mall, government agencies such as customs and immigration centre, a performance arts centre, a mega grocery store, sporting facilities that would include a swimming pool, gift shops and local art centre and taxi ports.
“My friends, no vision has been shared with you for the East End Harbour development so far…This product is what is going to take this community to the other level. Both the 7th and 8th Districts must buy in to this common vision. We must see the importance of such a facility that is going to bring over 200 million dollars per year to this community and by extension this beautiful BVI.”
