THE SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI- The Department of Waste Management, in collaboration with the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, is investigating potential arson at the Anegada Dumpsite.

The fire occurred on Monday, May 11, 2026, around 5:00 PM.

According to the Department of Waste Management, to date, the majority of the flames have been extinguished; however, lingering smoke remains in the area.

'Not the first time'

The Director of Waste Management, Mr Brian A. Davis, reminded the public that setting fires at the dumpsite is illegal and extremely dangerous. “This is not the first time this has happened,” the Director revealed and warned that persons found responsible for deliberately igniting fires will face criminal prosecution and other legal consequences.

Residents are advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary exposure to smoke, and report any suspicious activity immediately by contacting the department at 468-4934.

someone set fire to it due to the fact the rubbish had not been buried and the island was full of flies, this is the reason, maybe if waste management did the management part of their job this would not happen

Just like box Heath. This is starting to look like Government policy for waste problem solving.

Did we ever find out if the Cox Heath crooks still got paid for removing the waste?

Right about now, Tortola need its garbage barged somewhere bc they are killing off the population on western side of the island and NO ONE CARES. A study needs to be conducted and the results shared openly.

Don't Blame the Anegada residents please for you all non-performance. You all recently have not been maintaining the Dump like before. The Solid waste people was controlling the dump very good until recently; the Minister needs to look into the problem and fix it whatever it is please. We in Anegada is people too and deserve better.
