ESTATE BOVONI, St Thomas, USVI- Popular jockey Sunday Diaz has said Pure Speight is “fit and read” for a rematch against Floki’s Flight, who defeated him in the feature clash of the Labour Day Races at Clinton E. Phipps Racetrack on St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, on August 31, 2025.

Diaz and Pure Speight made light work of all challengers in the feature race of the Salute to Service horse races at the same venue on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

Pure Speight didn’t wait too long to open up a lead to win comfortably in a time of 1:24.4, dusting the likes of Friar Laurence, Laser Sharp of Tortola, Unsociable of Anegada and Modern Lane.

The 7-furlong race for Class A horses fetched a purse of $18,000.

“They always give me the choice of my own,” Diaz told Virgin Islands News Online when asked about the race plan.

“This horse does not have to be in front. It can come from behind, but I decided to go to the front because of the other horses. I didn’t want to get in trouble,” Diaz continued.

Pure Speight ‘fit & ready’ for rematch

The well-known jockey said Pure Speight was “fit and ready,” unlike the last time when he lost in a tight battle with Floki’s Flight, who was ridden by another accomplished jockey, Kevin Krigger.

Diaz said this was due to the great work of the team, including the trainers.

“The horse was too heavy and had a big belly, so now I am ready for the rematch,” Diaz said.

Horse racing fans will be eager for the rematch and hope this will materialise next month.

The raced was close, and Diaz clearly got out ridding that Sunday by a better jockey Kevin who pulled the krigger to the end of the race. No need for excuses, just kindly ask please for a rematch.
