Sun-blinding caused CGB morning accident
No one was seriously injured or had minor injuries that warranted hospital treatment but there were emotional scars on the part of both the drivers of the two vehicles involved.
Reporters attached to this news site stumbled across the accident shortly after 8am today and the alleged driver of the defaulting vehicle was obviously very distraught and shaken and so was the driver of the other vehicle.
“I couldn’t see a thing, I just couldn’t see,” the driver of GV0375 was overheard saying. He said too that he was obviously in the wrong lane being on the right hand side coming from Cane Garden Bay heading into towards Road Town.
Two passengers from the other vehicle which was observed in the correct lane explained that as they were proceeding down into Cane Garden Bay the vehicle GV0375 was observed in the incorrect lane heading towards them.
The passenger said that the driver of PX142 was sounding the horn frantically to alert the oncoming vehicle but he allegedly continued approaching at an alleged fast pace and slammed head-on into the PX142 which at the time had at least three or four persons including the driver.
Having passed the accident scene earlier, this news site’s staff was proceeding back to Road Town from Cane Garden Bay a few minutes later and got a taste of the sun blinding experience that hit the government vehicle’s driver. The reporter had to come almost to a halt and proceed at a snail’s pace as the light from the sun was blinding.
The advice to all motorists is, “When sun is blinding, brakes up, don’t speed up.”
