Summer Sizzle hailed as Festival ‘Kick starter’
With the Blessing from the Government of the Virgin Islands through the Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn who also pledged government’s continued support for Summer Sizzle, the event saw a mammoth turnout.
“The government will try to continue to support you for as long as we can to ensure that Summer Sizzle stays around for a very long time… You know Festival starts when Summer Sizzle starts,” said Hon Walwyn.
He made an appeal to the organizers of the Summer Sizzle to play a part in the education system of the Virgin Islands by organizing a forum where designers and international models can meet with high school students who have an interest in the fashion industry to give them some pointers on some of the things that they are look for in the industry to generate that sort of interest.
The idea was welcomed by BVI Summer Sizzle Coordinator Mr Terry T. Donovan who said a resounding “Yes” to the idea. He was congratulated by the Hon Minister for putting the Virgin Islands on the map as it relates to runway modeling and fashion and for signaling the start of the VI Emancipation Festival of 2014.
Prior to the short speeches by Mr Donovan, Hon Walwyn, designer and runway model trainer Mr Alva L. Page and a few others, the evening got started with the appropriate and inviting musical entertainment which allowed all present to meet and greet in a very wonderful environment.
Cocktail delicacies on a self services platter had everyone licking their finger tips and the moment of cultural entertainment of dance and local calypso singing and at the end there was no wasting of the music as persons got down on it. But the true party moment is scheduled for tonight at the White Fashion Gala on at Cultureville, adjacent to the Beef Island Bridge on Tortola, Music by BVI top DJ, DJ Bertrum and New York top DJ, DJ Protégé promises to be off the hook.
Everyone will be looking forward to the presence of a specific guest, Oscar nominated actress Taraji P. Henson who had sent word to those at the launch party that it is going to be a party in all white like none seen before.
Actress Henson was excused from attending the launch as she had arrived on Island very late yesterday July 24, 2014 and was exhausted having travelled all day.
