Virgin Gorda, VI - Ravi Sukhu and Kathleen Brownsdon splashed their way to victories on Saturday February 8, 2014 to win the 2nd Dive BVI 5K Series race on a rainy Virgin Gorda.

Sukhu, who also won the last race, said his time was not as good as in the first race.

“I’ll take it because of the rough house conditions,” said Sukhu who had a winning time of 20 minutes and 27 seconds and was followed by Emrol Amsterdam of Virgin Gorda in 20:38. “I was planning on a better time than last time but after turning up and seeing the conditions, flooded roads, pot holes, I just decided to take it easy and actually thought Emrol would have won, but I managed to pull it back.”

Race director Casey McNutt said when they picked up 15 runners from Tortola, the weather was bleak and she thought it would clear up and be a nice day.  However, it poured on the trip to Virgin Gorda. She didn’t expect to see many people at registration either.

“We had 42 people turn up in the pouring, pouring rain,” she noted. “We had an excellent race with a lot of great people. This race we supported ARC (Animal Rescue and Control) and raised $500 for them. It was a great community event and a whole lot of fun.”

The next race in the series is scheduled for March 1, with proceeds going towards assisting Virgin Gorda’s VISAR.
