Successful EU Meet for Makos swimmers

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Swimmers from the Makos Swim Club headed to Orlando, Florida this past weekend to participate in the 10th annual EU Swim Series at the YMCA Aquatic Center.

Hosted by the YMCA of Central Florida, the championship saw swimmers from nine countries participating in the first EU Swim in the Western Hemisphere. Previous EU Swims have been held in France, Brussels, Finland and other European countries.

In the girls 10 and under 50m freestyle, Arianna Angus finished third in a time of 37.96 and Khadija Sampson was sixth in 42.92.

Angus was also third in the 100m freestyle, in 1:37.57 and Sampson 4th in 1:46.47.

Sampson then came 7th in the 50m backstroke in 1:03.75 but was disqualified in the 50m breaststroke. She rebounded to claim 4th in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 2:19.10.

Angus, meanwhile grabbed third in the 50 m butterfly in 54.82, but did not finish in the 100m version.

Kassia Haymer Nichols finished 10th in the 11-12 girls 50m freestyle with a time of 36.84. and 9th in the 100m freestyle in 1:34.11. She followed up with 8th in the 50m back stroke in a time of 48.78. and 5th in the 50m breast stroke in 50.53. She came 8th over 100m in 1:54.77.

Kayla Roberts finished 6th in the 13-14 girls 50m freestyle in 38 seconds flat, 5th in the 13-14 100m free in 1:28.36, 2nd in the 200m freestyle in 3:26.73 and 5th in the 100m breast stroke in 1:56.94. She also finished 3rd in the 200m breast stroke in 4:21.24.

In boys 10 and under, Kurt Salapare finished 2nd in the 50m freestyle in 41.21, 3rd in the 100m free in 1:35.58, 2nd in the 200m free in 3:35.88 and first in the 50m breast stroke in 51.59, as well as first in the 100m version in 1:49.63.

    Wondering why these young swimmers was not supported by the government. They went to the U.S. for the EU swim meet brought the BVI name, but it seems that they were not being recognized by the ministry of Sports and they bring medals home... What's up Mr Myron Walwyn??
