Students of Jost Van Dyke School Obtain Closer Look into Tourism Industry through Tourism Education Programme
This presentation was among a series of tourism education programmes being held by the BVI Tourist Board to educate students on the importance of tourism for the Virgin Islands (VI).
Aspects of tourism were highlighted such as the definition of tourism, the history of tourism in the VI, and the impact of tourism on students and the population.
The future of tourism in the VI is dependent on the success of our youth to learn the skills and knowledge needed to sustain tourism, one of our key pillars. For this reason, it is important to provide students with the tools required to secure growth within this sector.
A number of schools throughout the territory have begun to take advantage of these tourism education presentations, which are open to all primary and secondary schools in the VI. To participate, schools need to submit a request to the BVI Tourist Board for the topic of their choice. The following presentations are offered: Tourism in the BVI, Sustainable Tourism, Careers in Tourism, Marketing BVI Tourism, and the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission. Each topic is interactive and designed for students to gain a better understanding of tourism and its key role in securing the islands’ prosperity.
