Strong local support for Taste of Virgin Gorda 2026
12 restaurants had the distinguished honour of showing to patrons what Virgin Gorda has to offer on a culinary scale.
Whether it was Crispy Lobster Bites, Conch Ceviche and Passionfruit Sangria from the Rock Café, Caribbean Spiced Profiteroles and Painkiller Kebabs from Rosewood Little Dix Bay, Crab Wanton from Chez Bamboo, Tuna Poke from Cocomaya, Jerk Chicken, Fish or Beef from De Jerk Spot or sweet treats from Moka, there was enough to delight the taste buds and go for more.
Further adding to the atmosphere were performances by Hardcore Band, DJ Quanie, and SyotheSax, who skillfully showed his variety. All the entertainers were from Virgin Gorda.
‘Tasty samplings’
Among those supporting Taste of Virgin Gorda 2026 were Ninth District Representative and Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley; Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4); Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development, Hon Lorna G. Smith and her husband, former Premier Dr D. Orlando Smith; and Opposition Member Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL).
Among the “tasty samplings” Hon Hodge said she had were Conch Chowder, Cupcakes and Jerk Chicken.
Describing the atmosphere as “fantastic”, Hon Smith said she was impressed with the large local support, from both Tortola and Virgin Gorda, adding that additional boats were needed to bring persons from Tortola to the event.
“I think it is a great event,” Hon Hodge said, adding that the event was first held 10 years ago and continues to have momentum.
The Junior Minister for Tourism did admit that she would have loved to see more visitors, “so they can get the experience.”
Hon Hodge-Smith added that the event was well organised and extended congratulations to the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission.
