ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A list of names of persons who allegedly benefitted from the COVID-19 Fishing and Farming Stimulus initiative has been receiving much social media attention; however, it has been deemed inaccurate and incomplete.

The list also claims that the farmers and fisherfolks named received certain amounts. There are also reports that some of the names included are of deceased persons.

The publishing of the inaccurate list has been deemed as ‘mischievous’ and ‘political games’ by some persons whose names are on the list and who spoke to our newsroom.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) addressed the controversy on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, calling the list inaccurate and incomplete.

Inaccurate & incomplete

“The Government of the Virgin Islands has been made aware of an inaccurate and incomplete list that is being circulated with information apparently including fisherfolks and farmers' names and amounts received for COVID-19 Fishing and Farming Stimulus initiative.”

According to the Premier, the authenticity of this list is being examined “as discrepancies have already been identified by the requisite authorities, which raises a major red flag.”

He said a “review” on the matter is being carried out to bring clarity and accurate information to the public.

“Upon completion of the review of this entire matter, further information will be made available.

“The Government of the Virgin Islands continues to assist numerous persons and businesses during this ongoing global pandemic in a transparent and prudent manner that will withstand the test of time.”

Lawsuit?

Meanwhile, one of the persons whose names appeared on the list said she was highly upset that her name was published, noting that while she is aware that persons can go for the information at the relevant Ministry, names should not be publicised in the media.

She also said she was considering a lawsuit, although it is unclear who it will be against as she was not clear who publicised the list.

I agree, this is serious, people are getting robbed and shot outside their home for $3000, and now they have a list of persons who may or may not have received funds. These individuals should be caught and arrested.

Maybe if the government were transparent and the information was already available to the public this would not have been an issue. As taxpayers it is only right that we know who is receiving monies from the public pot

Your name suits you well, you are talking pure evil. Sick mentality! This deed is a criminal offense! Bottom line!! These individuals need to be caught and brought to justice!

Which individuals? The ones potentially taking monies they should not be entitled to or the ones that are shining a light on possible corruption? Surely you wouldn't agree that it is acceptable for people to claim and receive money they are not entitled to? As taxpayers we should know who is pocketing our deductions

    1. If you received a stimulus funded by taxpayer dollars the public deserves to know what it was for and who the beneficiary is. It sounds like the lady who is considering suing is upset because she is being exposed for receiving an improper stimulus. 2. There are multiple people who are on the list yet say they received nothing. WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO? 3. Some of the people on the list were neither farmers nor fishermen. Furthermore, in many cases bonafide fishermen and farmers received LESS than individuals who at best were gardening and fishing as a pastime. The people of the BVI deserve so much better but won’t get it until they stop tolerating such abuse.

Mr. Premier.... to avoid any confusion PUBLISH ALL THE OFFICIAL LISTS! It is our taxpaying money that went to these stimulus packages. Those people who received stimulus should not be ashamed if they had a legitimate business and were in need of assistance due to the pandemic.
As for the lady who is vexed her name was published.... SIT DOWN... you clearly didn't need the stimulus, you clearly received it when it was not due to you, you took it. Now that this is public knowledge you're upset and going to sue? PLEASE! You should never have taken it. And if you did and now you're embarrassed that everyone knows... GOOD!

Some people are placed on this Earth just to do evil and wickedness. Every morning God allow them to wake up, but instead of thanking Him for his goodness and mercies, they are busy trying their best to throw mud on good people

Yes, and the people on the list a taxpayers as well... so what, and now they will fall in a higher taxpayers bracket than you Craps because they are starting business. You people will never learn until your ‘simple headed jealous selves’ are brought before the law and sued for placing harm to others. The world is moving forward to greater and better things with or without you! All over the world governments assist their citizens in starting up businesses that employees the masses. People like yourself are foolishly unwise and filled with malicious jealousy! A very sad existence...of Crabs in a bucket!

I wish what you were saying was true. Do you believe all of those people are starting businesses and will employ others?

Bunch of Crabs in a Bucket!!! This is why most black people can’t seem to prosper like other races on this planet. This is why they don’t think we deserve to have anything, because most of us do not have self-worth in our own people to help to build us up. Collectively, we have a culture of keeping each other down. Many of us have no ambition, ‘but to be consumers’ and to look and dress good, that’s the mentality and when we see others braking that poverty curse many of us get Jealous and Crabby! Stop envying others and Go Do You! Get Up and find your purpose and strength to Achieve and Stop Spreading Jealous Evil!

These Crabby individuals who constantly broadcast these malicious reports will continue to feel justified in their wicked deeds if they are not caught and brought to justice. Only in places like these, is this behavior allowed to fester and go unpunished. In America and elsewhere these individuals would be arrested and penalized and a class-action suit would detour future copycats, because the law-enforcement authorities in other countries are much more equipped to find the offenders and bring them to justice.

    May God help Us!!!

It had a lot of people “ Who working at Government who don’t like the current government” personal feelings. Those same people probably just take a paper and put names and numbers next to them. And if a fishermen or farmers are not a fisherman and farmers sign up when they know their are not & got got support ain’t right but it’s done. It happened time to time. Also people who clearly got money will say they didn’t get anything because them know them owe ABC and don’t want to pay up. Anyone can put a list together; Ask Tola Radio how many checks they got!!!

Please stop. Even before I knew that there would be an exposure of this sort, I knew of 4 persons who told me last week that they got checks. The only thing some of them does grow is a a set of derilict vehicles up Pari throw down on government farm land.

Anywhere else you get government money under false pretense you behind get laws with the FEDS. But here it got to be glorified because who getting all the money vex that they get exposed and want to call wrong right. The Sh..t messed up

Andrew, along with his pronouncements should have offered proof then and there by publishing the " accurate list " and have the responsible party for dispensing this stimulus I list, right the
    re beside him in agreement.
So ,far, have not heard from any on the list claiming non receiipt.

Would the new list be published? if so when. As many of the people at Paraquita Bay wondering if they names had leave out of the list. As they are farmers some twenty,twenty-five, and thirty years farming. While everything was mashed up during the hurricanes, no one help those farmers. For months no water, and to wake up to find a list going around with people who has no farm, never farm a day in them life and fisherfolk who has never gone to fish getting stimuilus. This is just heartless. We need the new list publish.
