Stephanie I. Faulkner-Williams Out! Michelle A. McLean In! as Deputy LC
Following the resignation of Virgin Gordian Mrs Stephanie I. Faulkner-Williams in June of 2014 Mrs Michelle A. McLean has been appointed Deputy Labour Commissioner, effective November of 2014, according to this news site’s sources in the senior management of the public bureaucracy.
Mrs Faulkner-Williams resigns
It was in 2010 that Government announced the appointment of Mrs Faulkner-Williams whose tenure as Deputy Labour Commissioner with the Department of Labour became effective on April 4 of the same year.
According to this news site’s research, she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and International Development Studies and a Master’s Certificate in Human Resources Management from the St Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
However, in June of 2014 Mrs Faulkner-Williams called it quits via her resignation from the post to which she had been confirmed. It remains unclear if she became another casualty of the National Democratic Party’s political victimisation against locals.
Mrs McLean in & confirmed
Meanwhile, Mrs Michelle A. McLean - a Virgin Islander and long time civil servant who has worked for years in the Training Division and the court system of the Government- has been appointed to and confirmed in the post as Deputy Labour Commissioner effective November of 2014, according to the same sources.
As Deputy Labour Commissioner, Mrs McLean is responsible for managing the daily operations of each unit within the department; recruiting and screening applicants to fill vacancies; conferring with unit officers on matters such as placement problems, retention or release of probationary employees, dismissals of Virgin Islanders, and work permit issues; participating in overall planning and policy making to provide effective and uniformed services to internal and external customers; and coordinating annual outreach programmes to aid in the recruitment of school-leavers.
Mrs McLean holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and a Master's Degree in Human Resources Management.
It remains unclear why there has been no announcement to this appointment from the Government Information Services (GIS) to such a senior level appointment that is a vital Department to the economical development of the Virgin Islands.
The Labour Department made news in 2014 after it was revealed that in 2013 alone, to which statistics were available, some 10,000 work permits were processed while locals, especially the youth, remained unemployed.
The Deputy Labour Commissioner’s post is a government job in grade 14 with a salary range of $47, 371-$75, 282 a year.

Victim of the NDP victimization when it comes to local but then goes on to say that she is a local and has been confirmed? Further, if Faulkner resigned how can she be a victim of anything? Wow.
