ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Stedroy Matthew appeared before Justice Albert Redhead in the High Court today, March 8, 2013 and was given an 18 month suspended sentence and fined $900 or two months imprisonment after pleading guilty to the charge of reckless driving.

It was reported that Matthew had hit a pedestrian near Wickhams Cay II with his vehicle on June 14, 2010. He was reportedly driving his Safari heading west on the left lane and that when he got to the intersection adjoining Wickhams Cay he made a turn and went into the area of TICO. The court had previously heard that the VC was already halfway across the road between Deli France and TICO when she was struck down.

The victim was in court today and indicated that she plans to seek compensation in another court.

It was further stated previously that when Matthew struck the VC, she fell to the ground and the vehicle continued moving forward with the VC trapped under it and was dragged as the vehicle continued to move forward.

Matthew was then alerted of the incident and quickly managed to reverse to free the VC who reportedly sustained fractured ribs, a broken arm, ruptured spleen and a ruptured liver.
