VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Jeff Miller, a longtime resident of St John in the US Virgin Islands (USVI), has begun his daring swim of Sir Francis Drake Channel, from the [British] Virgin Islands to the US Virgin Islands (USVI).

Mr Miller, who is doing the incredible swim challenge to raise funds and awareness for two nonprofit organisations close to his heart, Team River Runner and the St John Cancer Fund, began his journey around 9:45 AM this morning, May 25, 2023, starting from The Baths area.

Before heading to VG this morning, Mr Miller met Ninth District Representative Hon Vincent O. Wheatley, who is also the Minister for Health and Social Development.

Well wishes

“Essentially, I wished him well on his endeavor and asked about the length of time it will take et cetera. He explained what the fund raiser was all about and the team who is with him,” Hon Wheatley told our newsroom in an invited comment.

Mr Miller has previously said the idea to swim the 15.5-mile stretch of water south of Tortola has been on his mind for a couple years.

He expects the journey to take anywhere from eight to 12 hours.

At 11:00 AM, nearly 1 hour and 15 minutes into his swom, Mr Miller had progressed some 3.3 KM or 2 miles, placing him midway between The Baths and Ginger Island.

Pardner, must be bored and needs some wuk. Pardner if he makes will set a trend, for others will go for the record. Some years ago lady was swimming from Cuba to Florida, a distance of some 90 miles. We like to challenge nature, demonstrating will power, testing our endurance, having bragging rights, celebrating being the first, satisfying our curiosity, etc. Remember the Tower of Babel. Man wanted to see wanted to see what was up in the heavens.
