St George’s & ESHS reach final of Inter-Secondary School Debates

BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- St George’s Secondary and Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) will contest the final of the Inter-Secondary School Debating Competition on March 13, 2024.

Both teams got past their challengers in the semi-finals held at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre Activity Hall in Baughers Bay, Tortola on February 28, 2024.

St George’s vs BFEC

Debating the moot: ‘The use of artificial intelligence dilutes the learning experience in the Virgin Islands’, opposing team St Georges Secondary School took the win over the proposition team Bregado Flax Educational Centre (BFEC) of Virgin Gorda.

The St George’s Secondary Debating Team includes De-Andra Sylvera, Yaasmeen Said, and Trinity Lettsome.

ESHS vs VISTS

In the first debate on the moot: ‘The Virgin Islands education system should separate Junior High School from Senior High School’, proposition team Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) defeated the opposition Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS).

The ESHS Debating Team includes Regional Junior Ambassador of Tourism Naomi A. Onwufuju, Adrianne Thomas, and Kande Richardson.

Both debates were heavily contested with the rebuttal scores determining the winners.

The moot for the final round of the debates is ‘All students exiting secondary school in the Virgin Islands should attain a technical qualification’.
