SPANISH TOWN, Virgin Gorda, VI- Spring Bay National Park on Virgin Gorda has reopened to the public after a lengthy closure.

The announcement of the park’s reopening was made by the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands (NPTVI) on December 31, 2025.

Spring Bay National Park was closed to the public for much-needed structural upgrades and renovations. In a March 2025 public notice, the NPTVI stated that the park was closed following consultations with some of its primary users.

“There have been growing concerns over constant erosion prior to 2017, particularly the damage that occurs after heavy rainfall events. The destruction sustained at Spring Bay made it unsafe for use by the public,” Chairman of the Board of the NPTVI, Clyde C. Lettsome, had said.

Safer & more resilient Spring Bay National Park

The Spring Bay National Park underwent work designed to “improve safety, visitor experience and long-term resilience”, the NPTVI said in the December 31, 2025, announcement, adding, “The reopening of Spring Bay marks an important milestone as we step into the New Year.”

The works undertaken were in response to stronger storms and changing weather patterns. These works included upgrades to walkways, improved drainage systems, and reinforced park infrastructure.

According to the NPTVI, these improvements help reduce erosion, protect the natural landscape, and provide safer access throughout the park.

It continued that the upgrades reflect NPTVI’s commitment to adapting the VI’s national parks to climate challenges while preserving the natural beauty and visitor experience that make Spring Bay so special.

“We invite everyone to visit, enjoy the park, and help us care for this renewed space through responsible use," NPTVI stated.
