'Speak the Truth!’ L. Allen Wheatley blasts Hon Penn for claiming Hawk’s Nest road project

-says project was created under past VIP Gov't as part of a large road network plan in the area
Former Financial Secretary, Mr L. EAST/NORTH EAST, Tortola, VI – Former Financial Secretary, Mr L. Allen Wheatley who is contesting the 8th Electoral District in the Virgin Islands 2023 Elections under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), has blasted his political opponent, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) for taking credit for the completion of the Hawk’s Nest Road project in East/North East Tortola.

Wheatley in a WhatsApp voice note circular today, Saturday, March 18, 2023, claimed that he was the one who envisioned the project and realised its possibilities after being told it was not possible.

Road was part of a major road network plan - Wheatley

“Hawk’s Nest Road was part of a grant plan, to open up the northern road to give an alternative, as opposed to having to go to Cane Garden Bay,” Wheatly said.

“When hurricane Irma came and Cane Garden Bay was shut down, we were able to do tours either in the south and north and end up on Long Bay Beach,” he added.

During a recent debate, Hon Penn when asked about his accomplishment in Government and Politics had listed the Hawk's Nest Road as one of his accomplishments; however, Mr Wheatley is disputing this.

Wheatley further added that the lack of economic activity in Long Bay Beach came as a result of a ‘block’ from the NDP who stopped projects that would have boosted the areas.

NDP did not build Hawk's Nest road - Whealtey

“Y'all [NDP] did not do the Hawk’s Nest Road, y’all did not interconnect the northern highway, the whole Ridge Road network was all VIP and most of it was done in my time as the FS,” he added.

Mr Wheatley called on Hon Penn to ‘Speak the truth’ and reiterated that Hon Penn nor the NDP had anything to do with the project.

“Stop claiming what you did not do... Find something that you actually did and talk about it, because every time you claim something of mine, I will shut you down,” Mr Wheatley warned.

If 100yrds of road is all Penn can claim he did for the 8th in the 8yrs hes been there is pitiful. Just look at the state of the roads in EE. And American is coming in just a few months. They called this the sexiest new destination. Just wait till they have to traverse the endless potholes and sewage on the road! The sexiest cesspol is what it is.

honestly I have no concern with who started it but more so with who ran it and finished it. Politics is just a bunch of smoke screen to hide the true intention..money grabbing

These politicians are the same, saying and doing anything to get a Job. When they get the Job, they have to sign all kind of party a d govt privacy and secrecy agreement. They can't freely talk to the people and represent the people properly...That's why I want Lorna and Ronnie in this Govt, Maturity, honesty and experience brings stability..

Where is the guard rail for this road that they are fighting to get credit for? This is such a simple thing to implement, and it could save lives.

    What a backwards place.

Give Marlon thr credit for the Georgie Hill road project that he give to his crabs that started in the hundred thousands and end up in the millions. I am amazed the auditor general never audited that project. Probably because she has always favored the NDP.

I think marlon means the lil pieces they finished off recently? He is the one that finished the project? There both right, but allen does have point.

Allen what about you the other night in Virgin Gorda calling out all of the VIP projects? It is obvious that you all are trying to drown out Lavity's contribution to this country. It was dis respectful when someone had to call out to you that the College is a project that was done. But because you knew that lavity did it you wanted to sidestep it allegedly. Tell the people that the dual carriageway and many projects that was done was already in the making before lavity passed.

Tell them that from time Ralph joined the VIP it has been one scandal after the next from the time he was Deputy Chief Minister. But you all are his bad eggs hatching so you all will praise him. When that college that your father managed was been built and created Lavity and Lorna were out on a limb by themselves where a lot of you all were laughing saying it could never happen.
