Social Commentator and talk show host Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline said something with a ‘Trumpet-ish spirit’ is happening in the Virgin Islands, threatening democracy. Photo: Internet Source

During Honestly Speaking on September 15, 2026, titled ‘State of Emergency Part 4’, Skelton-Cline said, “I see something happening here that is putting our democracy on a dangerous path and it has a Trump-ish spirit to it.” He referred to the recently held Republican Mid-term Convention where United States President Donald J. Trump offered $5000 to Americans if they vote Republicans to win the House and Congress at the upcoming Mid-term elections. 

“I am seeing something in this country where it looks like, and I’m doing more research, where we have people who are running for office, offering themselves for office and they’re all through the Virgin Islands trying to buy people to run with them or for them, making all kinds of false promises in regards to finances.”

He added that if a man or woman could be bought in that case, then just imagine what could happen if they are put as trustees of the country. 

Stay out of this politics thing

“Brothers and sisters…if it is, you and I are not in a position to offer ourselves in healthy ways to help run this country for the sake of the people of the country, leave the people and their country alone, stay out of this politics thing.”

He advised persons that if they plan on entering politics hoping to get rich or to gain something instead of helping people to stay away from politics. 

“You like the greedy bill and the perks that it offer and that is your motivation, stay out of this thing…we are going down a dangerous path here.”

Skelton-Cline said he has reached out to the Election Office and certain persons for clarification on election laws, amendments to these laws, any pending amendments to the laws and campaign financing laws. 

“I want to know where does all of this fit in our election laws? Where does it fit in campaign financing? What do we have on record and if we don’t, what do we need to put on record prior to this next election?”

He added that he is deeply concerned about this path and wants to raise a red flag and bring attention to it. 

Skelton-Cline said he is not accusing anyone but simply cautioning about what he is observing while remaining hopeful it does not come to fruition.
