BAUGHER'S BAY, Tortola, VI – Radio Talk show Host Claude O. Skelton-Cline has called on the banking sector in the VI to improve their customer service, which he says is resulting in ordinary citizens suffering as a result of the poor service from these institutions.

Speaking on the November 2, 2021, edition of his ‘Honestly talking’ radio show in ZBVI, Skelton-Cline said that some companies in the banking sector lack so much good customer service, the Government or another oversight institution will have to step in and address the problem.

“I think it is horrible the way banks are handling customers. Horrible!” he reiterated in criticizing the sector.

“And I am calling upon Government leadership to leverage the powers of the government. I am calling upon [the] FSC (Financial Services Commission), they have some regulatory oversight,” he said with regards to the issue.

Gov't must step in - Skelton-Cline

Skelton-Cline said while he does not want to cast blame on any specific institution, ordinary citizens are suffering because of the poor services as they try to do business with the banks.

“Some of you are doing better than others, but something needs to be done forthwith… The Government needs to leverage its powers in commanding and demanding a better system that serves the people of this country when it comes to banking,” he said.

According to the man of the cloth, he continues to hear the cries and see the challenges of ordinary citizens who complain about using the local banking system.

Skelton-Cline said the VI now needs to take a step beyond talking, complaining, and assigning blame, into making concrete efforts to bring a solution to the problem.

If they are so bad then use your other options and stop complaining.

There are serious issues going on at one bank that I know of. It’s not just poor customer service. It’s money missing from customers’ accounts, the bank is aware and does not even seem to be investigating.
But soon Financial Services will become involved. Hopefully the right action will be taken then.

I been trying to get a popular bank to answer phones and emails for months. I finally had to fly home to walk in. Made an appointment 12. Sat for an hour then told she had an “emergency”. Went to lunch an she was sitting next to me! Went back a week later and she didn’t apologise for nothing. Just sat there looking like Jabba the Hutt like I sh**. Went to Scotia an they good to me an make their bit from my loan no propblem.

the high cost of Insurance .

The worst of them...Banco Pop. FCIB. .The poorest service, the dont care attitude and disregatds for customers....Banco treat us like we are begging for food, lining up from 730 in the sun and if it rains we get wet, waiting for them to open at 9...They are the only one open so late... Then it seems like every day their ATMs out of money for days..it cant get any worst...I know Republic Bank will check on their ATMs regularly especially on a weekend holiday to make sure they have cash,, What so hard with Banco doing that...They dont care...

At banco popular the security gard have issues..one time i was there and one of them treat a senior like a dog. He shouted at the poor woman badly. They need to have some respect for the elderly and stop being so aggressive to others. Yes they are there to make sure everything in place but they are not there to eat people. Smh

I remember that, the mall cop treated the poor senior like she was indeed a dog. Anywhere out side of the BVI, everyone of them would be on the unemployment line filing a claim for unemployment insurance.

I hope the senior management of Banco Popular is paying close attention to these comments.  It is such a shame that before the days of advanced computer technology, this bank provided much better service.  I know this for a fact as I once worked there for 8 years when it was under another name.

Even though one of my business accounts is at this bank, I avoid the face-to-face service like a plague.  It is a humiliating feeling to go there as the lack of customer care is obvious. My husband constantly complains about them as he has no choice but to regularly deal with them.  I am not saying the other banks are perfect but the service at this bank is at an all-time low.

Just imagine at times you cannot even get change to operate your business.  Ordering checks is a nightmare.  You dare not ask questions to the wrong person as most of the employees are less than patient. Not to mention the hostile security service. I will not even think of applying for a personal  loan or mortgage at this bank.  I have gone to other banks such as National Bank for such services and was treated with dignity.

I know we are moving to a cashless society but we are not there yet.  The management of this bank needs to realize that without its customers their doors will be permanently closed.  I am therefore appealing to the banking regulators of this country to step in and audit the services of this bank as a matter of urgency as it is beyond horrible!

We sure are moving into a cashless age when the ATM is out of money on a weekend....

In BVi cash is king because we don’t trust the banks and dealing with them is so unpleasant. I hate being charged extra for using my card so always use cash. It’s also easier to budget as it hurts more to hand over 100 than 10 bucks but with the card it feels the same.

If they were more efficient they’d cut jobs so they all move like molasses in the winter time.No customer service no respect couldn’t care less attitude, Covid has done them a favour and kicked there main problem ( the customer) outside while they cling to their jobs in the AC

The letters on the Banco Popular drive-through ATM were very dim up to last week when I tried to use that machine. It was like that for a long time. The other two walk-up machines are down a lot of the time. This too was going on for a long time. And the one at the airport does not seem to work either.

Why is the bank allowing this situation to continue?

All the banks are the same, the government bank takes a lifetime to do everything. Apply for a loan and ur hair will turn white before they call and tell u they need more info. Then u have to wait another life time for approval. This is crab
Misplacing documents is careless and unprofessional. Who and where does the misplaced documents undue. Andrew start with ur bank and have them adjust and be more careful with people's documents. If the customers had the cash money to purchase things they will not go to the bank but they will be investigated and locked up for using money with out source of funds statement.
National bank is quick to sell and slow to do everything else. Banjo needs managers that will be allowed to work with out being
micromanage . Fcibc managers needs customer service , they walk back and forth with their face like concrete with the banking hall full and never greet the customers . Republic bank tellers need training, the lines will be full and the tellers will be talking to each other, walking back and forth and some checking their cash to close and customers there to be served. Fix them or close them.

All of them, it's a dam shame. I called one of them three times trying to get some information on a mortgage and all three time I was promised that the mortgage department will call back. Guest what. No one did up to this day. The ATM messed up my deposit and for five days I could not get into the bank. I finally got in on the 6th day and no one in the bank has seen my check all this while. Five minute after leaving the Bank the check that no one has seen for five days was deposited into my account. Quite a coincidence. Kudos to Banco for putting in an accessible easy deposit box.

From since after hurricane 2017 I've been asking for answers concerning my money up to now 2021 Scotia now republic cant answer me. I made several trips there still no answer. I still want my money and double for my trouble. All is not lost for that bank because their are a few people in customs service who tries to keep the bank looking good in the public's eyes. I don't remember the name of the young lady she is new to the team but I can tell you she seems to live and breathe customers service. She has what it takes to be a service ambassador if the bank don't treat her well they will loose big time.

The drive thru service is sickening as hell among other services. 85-90% of the customers that used the drive thru is there to do a simple transaction or two that should take a maximum of three minutes to process. You could be in the drive thru line between frett building and Banco popular and an hour or more will elapsed before you can reach up to the machine. Where are the managers of bank. I will have to they are at home.
