DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Former Senior Pastor of New Life Baptist Church Bishop John I. Cline has blasted supporters of political parties and some politicians who he said are only loyal to their pockets rather than the Virgin Islands.

Speaking on the My BVI radio show live-streamed on Facebook on March 16, 2023, Bishop Cline described the situation as a “sad commentary” as they would rather sacrifice the country for the sake of their party.

“Let me say that again, that there are supporters, there are even politicians on the scene today that would sacrifice the country for the sake of their party.”

‘They are loyal to their pocketbooks’- Bishop Cline

Bishop Cline, who said he was not affiliated to any party for this elections, suggested the disloyalty by some constituents and politicians is because of love for money.

“They are loyal only to their pocketbooks. They are not loyal to country, they are loyal to party, they are loyal to their pocketbooks.

“When it comes to what is good for this country, I believe that it is somewhere on the list but it is not one of their top priorities. It Is what I can get out of the country and not what I can do for my country,” Bishop Cline opined.

He urged the electorate to watch out for those individuals during this election season.

“And that is a sad commentary and I hope that the voting population listens very closely, see the behaviour of politicians and their supporters today and you are wise enough to weed out those you know will put us in a bad way,” Bishop Cline stated.

General Elections in the Virgin Islands is April 24, 2023.

Switch those words and take a good look in the mirror on how that applies to those FAKE SELF-PROFESSED PROPHETS robbing the congregation blind and bring them here several times a year fooling the people that attend to try to buy a blessing, which CANNOT BE BOUGHT!

Your statement is so true. Loyalists to Andrew Fahie saw and knew he was sending our country to hell in a hand basket and rather than speaking out they stood by silently then now want to come making noise about 4 more years.

You here talking and you never incourage the ministers to leave your gym and go back to the original spot of the HOA. You enjoyed eating big also. And you need to return to the congregation all that money you collected because the bible is fake. We see you to.

Man if you are a leader. If a few folks look up to you. You don't have to be supporting a particular political party in this election to say what you are seeing that others are not. Give the people pointers, tell us what you are seeing that we are not. For the good of your country tell you who you believe is in it for the pocket book. What are you afraid of. If you can't do that don't leave us to guess. Tell us we the people want to know for the good of our country.

Now I does hardly comment on these things but to see this MS who say he is a Christian pointing out those who support party to be loyal to pocket book is bull sh**. He is only about candidate when it is convenient to his @$#. All of a sudden we must vote candidate over party???? Hell no. The system was not designed nor built for that.

We have a political system that controls the government who works on behalf of the people to put policies in place. No different to any other part of the world that has a democracy like ours.

So hush you r@#$% and go sid down with this candidate crap cause we voting party and the green team had been tried tested and proven to be the people’s party always. All the others is about a small circle of benefactors.

Congratulations on winning the dumbest statement of the week in a very crowded field. Anyone voting party this time around has probably had a lobotomy. Find some good honest individuals and put them in power where they can make a difference. Especially the independent candidates.

A party is an alliance of interests and individuals to promote a governing philosophy for the public good. The party system has been around for centuries in the UK, US and elsewhere. They are integral to the Westminster system of government which consist of a)a head of state, b) parliament, House of Assembly, Legislative Council, etc, c) political parties and d) government (executive branch. Over time, a two-party duopoly have emerged in countries, ie, UK, US, Caricom, etc. Governments typically alternate between the two parties. Increasingly, third parties have been emerging to challenge the 2-party duopoly; they have not yet reached any dominance. In hung parliaments, HoA, etc, they can be king makers. The 2-party duopoly in the BVI are the VIP and NDP. The party system for the most part requires collective responsibility, ie, in an incumbent government party members are whipped to vote for or opposed bills brought up for a vote on the the floor. Members can break from their party on votes but loyalty is expected. Moreover, the Westminister system is flawed and the party system is not perfect. But they are the systems in place in the BVI and if a majority of Virgin Islanders are unhappy with both, they should agitate, advocate for change. A constitutional review committee is developing changes to negotiate with the UK for. However, I will go out on a dry, rotten tree limb and boldly assume that getting rid of the party system or Westminster system is not on the agenda. The party system has offered some stability and attained progress. If things are going side ways, it is not the party that is at fault (the party is an institution comprising of people); it is the people in the party and the electorate. The electorate have the power to ensure that things don’t go sideways but if do, they can act quickly to take control. The people have the power in-spite of what you may have heard otherwise. The Bishop railed about self interest. Here is a news flash. All of us act in our own self-interest even when we do good. It is human nature to act in our own self-interest. All of us shoukd look in the mirror and believe the reflections, advocating for positive change.

The highest honor anyone can have is to preach the word of God and win souls for the kingdom. Imagine someone giving this all up to be more relevant in politics. God cannot be pleased. But anywhere, where your treasure is, is where your heart will be also.

@@Political Analyst, I try to keep things in context and avoid running off on tangent. But don’t get things twisted. Colonialism, racism, etc are cancers that afflict the poor, working class and underclass in colonies where the indigenous, slaves, and indentured servants were/are treated as a permanent underclass. The colonialists like to assign social Darwinism to those they view as a permanent underclass.
