ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley has said regional partners have been of great assistance to the Virgin Islands and other Overseas Territories (OT) that are facing security issues.

Speaking on The Virgin Islands Voice on October 8, 2025, Premier Wheatley stated that there are security challenges worldwide, and he has discussed these challenges with other OT leaders as well.

“They have been able to get more assistance from places like Jamaica and The Bahamas in meeting their security challenges. And in addition to that, you have CARICOM and the OECS, they have something called the Regional Security System, which is the RSS.”

VI has benefited from regional assistance

Premier Wheatley revealed that the territory has received assistance from regional institutions.

“So you have the RSS that has been able to provide us with a great deal of support, even support in our own police force.”

The RSS, he said, was able to assist the VI in the formation of its Financial Crime Unit.

“We have been able to rely on the RSS, and they are a very valuable resource for us.”

The RSS is an international agreement for the defence and security of the eastern Caribbean region with expansion into South America.

"We also have CARICOM IMPACS, who assist with security concerns."

The CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) is the first coordinated plan across CARICOM to strengthen cyber resilience and tackle cybercrime and cybersecurity threats.

I think what he is trying to point out is that we should really go Independent.

It is really all he can think about. He is desperate to get that. More than Trump wants the Peace prize it would seem.

He has forgotten that in the meantime we need roads, water, to be able to live and have schools fit for education with materials to learn with and clean sheets in hospitals, and seats in community centres, lights on roads, covers on electrical boxes, sidewalks, road markings, administration buildings, ferry terminals, a functional post office, a Road Town Library, derelict car removal system, an incinerator, electricity, tax payment system, electricity payment system, audited accounts, to know where bank payments go to and by whom.

There is a lot to do before Independence.

There is a lot to do before an airport.

The difference is President Trump is actually doing what he says he was going to do, he certainly deserves the Nobel Prize more than say Obama who was the worst president since Carter, achieving peace in the Middle East is like getting water from a stone and he has done it. Our leader has not fixed the roads, sewerage, crime, water, electricity etc. which are basics for a civilized society.

You are right, bur it could that is because we are wasting or misusing too much of our inhand finances on frolic entertainment, and some of the time on unnecessary traveling that do not profit us.

In addition to those two, I think that you have fail to honestly admit that the UK is the senior partner, not the VI, of the relationship that has hooked us together, though crooked, and unbalaned as is both past, and present.

True, we do get support from regions, but at what responsive cost? You don't know, I don't know, we don't know, God only knows the price, we will have to pay them in the future. Every action has a reaction coming that hasn't yet been answered nor experienced.
