Some businesses tried to bully Gov't to flout health protocols - Premier Fahie
‘I’ve been under pressure’ – Premier Fahie
“I’ve been under pressure as the Leader of the territory by persons who have threatened me to take their investments out of here if I didn’t let them do what they wanted to do business-wise, because of certain health protocols.”
The Premier was at the time giving his contribution to the bill entitled, ‘COVID-19 Control and Suppression (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 2020’ at today’s, Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Third Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) in Duff's Bottom, Tortola.
“I want to say publicly to those persons here that anytime you decide to take your investments from the BVI because you are against some of the health protocols, it means to me that you only here for what you can get… you don’t care about the people nor your staff nor our safety, because we didn’t put them in to try to destroy your business,” the Premier further said.
While no business was named or singled out, Hon Fahie hinted that what goes for one, in terms of the COVID-19 health protocols, will go for all.
“We put them in to try to make sure that you are alive so that we can make sure that we can work through COVID-19, the post-COVID-19 era, and get back on our feet stronger than ever,” he said.
According to the leader of Government Business, COVID-19 does not discriminate and so the territory cannot have special health protocols for the rich and a separate special health protocols for the financially challenged.
"It is same across the board, and once we change our thinking in this COVID-19 era, and we change our business models, and we change our policies in Government...only then will we start to understand how to live and work through the new regular..."
Pandemic handling in reference point for future self-governance
The Premier said that when history is written regarding the VI's management of the pandemic, it will be written as a success story in the VI’s favour on its quest to chart its own future.
“It will also be a reference point for us to stop letting people think [and] make us believe that we cannot chart our way forward and be our own captain of our ship,” Hon Fahie said.
The territory currently has no reported cases of COVID-19, which has been mainly attributed to the health protocols put in place by Government.

Soanswer this question
Why did a person from Oil Nut Bay be allowed to quarantine without security, without an app or wrist tracker and before Dec 1st , this person was released into the country on the 5th day allowed to go everywhere , was this because of the money???
I am unapologetic and cannot sit here an allow a few persons who profess to think that they have the interest of the people at heart, instead they are trying to look for opportunities for making money. The United States had almost 2000 deaths in one day and over 12,000,000 reported cases. I am sure we do not want our numbers to increase. Let us be patient and wait on God or else we will have money and the death of loved ones.
