ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Social inquiry reports for Kandy James and Akeem Richardson, a couple who tried to terminate the pregnancy of Richardson’s ex-girlfriend, are key in their sentences that have been re-scheduled for December 5, 2011.

They were to be sentenced on November 8, 2011, however Judge Indra Hariprashad-Charles needs the reports which will give her an insight into the James’ and Richardson’s backgrounds.

On Tuesday October 18, 2011, the duo pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and administering a poison or other noxious thing with the intent to procure a miscarriage when they appeared in the High Court.

With the guilty pleas, one third of their sentences are likely to be shaved off.

According to court records, it is alleged that Richardson, 25, along with James 31, forced his ex-pregnant girlfriend, the Virtual Complainant (VC), to drink some pills and inserted some in her private parts.

The VC, who was 17 years-old and five months pregnant, went to a Road Town hotel with Richardson where she drifted off to sleep.

Shortly after that, the VC reported that she felt someone sat on her and another person placed her in a chokehold. She identified that it was then Richardson allegedly placed some tablets in her mouth and while struggling she was able to spit some out, but she swallowed a few.

The other individual who was holding the VC placed some tablets in her private parts. The incident allegedly occurred on February 28, 2010.

The maximum sentence for assault is five years, while intent to procure an abortion carries a seven year sentence.

This whole incident is a sad one but sad for the accused. Akeem, did you really want or need Ms. James in your life sooo much that you would destroy your own child? Ms. James, as a mother do you not value life, or was thing young lady not good enough to carry you boyfriend's child? As the older individual and a MOTHER and a WOMAN you should have known better... NOW LOOK. Both ya';; ging jail and this young lady still has her healthy baby that would have to endure the absence of his/her father for quite some time. Akeem I hope you make this right and ask your parents to play an activate role in your absence.... I will ppray for you all

Not sooo fast.... if this girl was this way since school days .. then there was something wrong back then that should have been addressed.... I am not in favour of throwing the book at her... however I firmly believe that she should be punished and allowing for a social inquiry is the way to go before administering the punishment.

Country gal shut yuh backside. If she was like that in school days, by now she should have changed her ways. Things we did when we were young we wouldn't do them no more because we have grown up. Obviously, she either havent grown up or she got away with so much, she thought she could continue getting away with it. BOOK HER. That is the lesson she needs; this will grow her up real fast if she hasnt already. This is the way to address he problem, BOOK HER!!!

What the heck does a social inquiry have to do with it??? Who cares what type of person she is??? If she was a saint, does take mean she goes scot-free for a serious assault on a pregnant woman?? Judge if someone did this to you personally, I guarantee you would hae cared less what type of person this was. You would lock them up and throw away the key. For goodness sakes, a baby almost died (that was the intent). Stop playing around this case and give the baby and the mother some justice, man!!!!!!!!!!

It's like a social network but only in this case, it's an inquiry! LOL!! You're upset because you don't know what a social inquiry is? LMAOOOOOOOOO!! Lord have mercy! It has to do with looking at the background of each defendent which would include personal evaluations, which would help the judge to determine the best course of action. For example, if it's shown from records that either defendants had mental issues etc. in the past and which may have impacted their action, the judge will take that into consideration when handing down sentencing. It also checks to see what their family background, childhood and other issues 'socially'..get it??? If in doubt, do like Alvin and 'google' it! :)

This justice system in the VI is weak, I can bet that they are going to walk after they keep pushing back that sentencing. I hope they will give me a social inquiry if i get caught doing something too, cuz I dose ask what is the definition of a crime in the VI now a these days.
