SOBVI athletes treated to lunch & bowling extravaganza

The Special Olympics BVI treated their athletes to a Lunch and Bowling End of Term Celebrationa at UP's and Colin in his chair developed a style by the end of the play that was the envy of all.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –The BVI Special Olympics team that has enjoyed a highly successful year was recently treated to an end of term lunch and bowling extravaganza at UP’s Cineplex where it seems new talents were discovered.

The former members of Capital Productions came together to continue their local charity work by sponsoring the lunch and cost of bowling at the Cineplex.

Collectively, they have pledged their commitment to continuously give to charity throughout the community and in light of the holiday season saw it fitting to spread some good cheer.

Everyone tucked into Pizza before hitting the lanes. Travis, Ali and Jason were hurling balls at the pins like rock stars, others more careful in their delivery, quickly got into the swing with Nikola, Delta and Cindy scoring steady points. Norma, Tanya and Roschelle began to hit the mark with their lighter balls and Colin in his chair developed a style by the end of the play that was the envy of all. John, always the socialite, moved between all the players enjoying the afternoon’s activities.

According to Allison Knights Bramble, “Everyone agreed that this should be a regular session for SOBVI and you never know we may just find ourselves a star player in the making! “ she went onto to give her thanks to Courtney Frett and Colin Bramble for “providing the expertise and guidance for the occasion”

Special Olympics BVI has had a successful year, with Gold, Silver and fifth placed medals from the sailing team that wowed the world in Athens.

The Sailing Team continues to train and attend regattas, and there are younger athletes now looking to climb aboard sailing boats with the intention of making the next SO World Games in 2015.

At the grass roots level, the organisation is careful to ensure that everyone has fun and takes part in sports of some kind.

Basketball, Indoor Cricket and Bocce are played weekly by the SOBVI adults most of whom are members of BVI Services. Its not about high level competition, its about spending an hour at the Multisport Complex, getting into a team game and practicing a few skills that have been locked away for a long while.

Whether the participants are highly mobile or restricted to a wheelchair the sports that SOBVI introduces fit all.
