ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Host of the EGM Show Edmund G. Maduro has alleged that the snap elections called by the National Democratic Party Government to be held on June 8, 2015 is an act of corruption since there is little time given for people to prepare.

He was speaking on his show aired last night, May 7, 2015 on ZROD 103.7 FM. “Ladies and gentleman, this election is a serious election. I believe that nothing is more corrupt than a snap election,” said Maduro.

The talk show host and former Chief Immigration Officer said the VI Constitution says that there must be elections every four years, even though it gives the authority and the right to have elections sooner than the four years.

“But the principle should remain that the people should know way ahead of time of an elections and it should not be a spur of the moment thing,” he said.

Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith told the territory on May 6, 2015 that elections, constitutionally due by February 2016, will be held in the Virgin Islands on June 8, 2015, notice that amounts to a mere one month and two days.

The Virgin Islands Party has since signalled its readiness to contest the elections, having ratified a full slate of 14 persons comprising District and Territorial/At Large candidates. The party had signalled weeks ago that it sensed that the National Democratic Party Government was inching towards calling elections either in June or July 2015.

“We are at a very serious point in our history at this election. Of course there has been a lot of mudslinging and mudslinging seems to be the name of the game. But there are people who are against the snap election,” said Maduro.

One caller to the show made the point that persons like to know that they have about four months to campaign instead of just one month which the announcement on May 6, 2015 gives the political parties.

Is this for real? This is what you call corruption?? Come on... VIP had almost four years to get ready for these elections. Once again, reactivity over proactivity! Unfortunately your lack of preparation will fail you and I would recommend that you already start preparing for the next elections in four years, because we need your party, but we need strong - not weak as it stands right now.

Its is clear, the NDP has always been wolf in cheep clothing, they are showing there true colors every day, these people are arrogant and power drunk, corrupt and selfish. The decision by the NDP was a clear effort to disenfranchise the electorates of the BVI, they realize that the can no longer hide their undesirable manner of governance, so they are afraid that the voters would adequately sensitize by the opposition parties before election, in addition to that they realize that the opposition is reorganizing with some new but potentially strong candidates hence they decided to call an early election to prevent the candidates from getting adequate time to present their self and policies to the people, so they are robbing the candidates a fair chance of contesting the election but I know that this low dirty minded act of the NDP has anger many citizens of the BVI and its possible that the NDP would be severely punish for this low depraved act.

It isn't corruption but it is a legal dirty tactic. It is like the Hack A Shaq in basketball. Everybody hates it except the people that are committing the act. A strong confident team is one that loves a challenge and prefer to wait until their opponent is at full strength to prove their strength. Only an inferior team will prefer to fight when their opponent is injured or not at full strength because they have doubts about their skills.

      @Mr VI

One time bloggers (VIP supporters I assume?) saying they can't wait for elections ["how long? not long.."] so they can kick out the NDP. I have no doubt VIP officials knew about those blogs.

Now you here with another type of nonsense that VIP need more time because they are still weak and not ready.

So which is it? VIP can't have it both ways.

The people of the BVI are greedy and selfish. So long their purses are fully, they don't care about other people who are hurting. The NDP is enriching themselves and a few of their cronies. Tell me ? how many condos those ministers got from Neal Bay free of charge. Why, are they finishing selling out the country. In the next 50 years or so, this will be a next South Africa. But, we are so shortsighted. Our children , children will suffer for our stupidity. What a shame. See the tears fallings. Our forefathers are crying out. They brought this land so we can live peacefully. Look at us now! Greed have consumed us.

Failing to prepare----Edmond I have to disagree--failing to prepare is preparing to fail--That`s exactly what`s happening.---its the obvious failure of leadership--which is also their obvious failure.

Problem: Too many conflict of interest questions.(Orion. Catering etc..

    Solution:
Step 1 - Partially Finish Cruise Pier, put on Grand Celebration
Step 2 - Dissolve House of Assembly, No HOA, No forum to answer to corruption.
Step 3 - Give out many contracts, people getting jobs are happy while work unfinished
Step 4 - Call Snap Elections, while the illusion of progress is FRESH!

Don't B Fooled! This is an attempt to trick u into voting for NDP under the false sense of progress
