ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - No Fear’s midfielder, Kelaine Smith’s stunning free-kick helped earn a 2-0 win over the Panthers on Sunday April 15, 2012 in the Johnny Hassan Women’s Football League.

Team player Smith, netted her first goal for the season by curling in from just inside the half way line 25 yards in the 53rd minute after Dalia Sonny had been fouled by Gertrude Thomas.

Ebony Fahie sealed the victory for No Fear with a well struck penalty in the second half which gave Desima Lambert no chance.

During a scrappy first half which was highlighted by Smith’s effort, Lambert had seemed unbeatable making several fine saves from Fahie, Smith and Sonny before being deceived by Smith’s free kick which was hit with power and precision.

At the other end, the Panthers also had a missed penalty which would have sent them into the break all square but Tariah Bascombe guessed right to block the shot. Shakira Blackman and Nicole Wheatley also went close before Thomas was inches away from a tap in following a cross from the left.

In the second half, the Panthers rarely threatened as Fahie and Smith began to run the midfield. Laverne Fahie and Makedo Fahie also kept the Panthers defense busy with Linda Alexander making several clearances to keep the score down.

The result could have been even more emphatic in a game where the Panthers struggled to get going offensively, but for some stoic defending by Linda Alexander, Joi Ann Thomas and Jeana James.

The decisive second goal came from a penalty calmly slotted home by Fahie, with the same player missing out on a golden opportunity to make it three, moments later when Joi Ann Thomas was adjudged to have handled the ball from a Ebony Fahie free kick.

This time, however, Fahie’s effort struck the upright and bounced away to safety.

The result takes No Fear joint top of the standings with the Ballstars, who beat the Panthers by the same scoreline in the season’s opening game.
