Smith encourages horse owners to examine 'breeding locally'
“He’s staying in the stable,” Smith said, “I’m actually using him for studding purposes based on the bloodline that he has.”
Smith stated that participants of the sport needed to examine breeding locally as each new horse that has to be acquired costs a lot of money.
“If we could get one or two colts out of the good horses that we still have around, then we could start to look at how we can make things happen for ourselves,” Smith said.
He noted that horse owners in St Croix had a good breeding process in place and did an excellent job in that area.
Smith disclosed that a trip is being planned to Puerto Rico in the ‘near future’ to explore means of getting affordable horses to bring for sale to interested persons to develop interest in the sport locally.
He noted that his current focus is on a horse that is being trained in his stables and expressed hope that he would be able to unleash the horse at the upcoming August Tuesday races at Ellis Thomas Downs.
“We’re making great strides,” Smith said of the horse’s progress, “I don’t want to match [the horse] with Really Uptown until the August Festival races.”
He described the horse as an excellent one and said fans of the sport have a surprise in store at the upcoming races. “I want to save something for the rainy day,” he added, “I’m planning to keep that horse at bay until such time.”

If Lesmore even cared about horses he would treat them better & listen when the vet talks. The only thing needed to fix our races is better stabling & parimutal betting
