Skelton-Cline suggests mandatory vaccinations for work permit holders
Speaking on the Tuesday, May 18, 2021, edition of his radio show, Honestly Speaking on ZBVI 780 AM, Mr Skelton-Cline said given the circumstances and what is at stake, businesses cannot afford to have a COVID-19 infected staff jeopardise their business.
Vaccine remains best protection - Skelton-Cline
"The best protection against what's coming in, is for us to be fully vaccinated... I'm fully vaccinated way beyond my 14-days. I'm not as worried personally about me and my family, but it can't just be about me, its about us.
"I am a proponent of employers going the extra mile... even if they are making it mandatory in some cases," he said regarding vaccinations in businesses.
He said persons must put themselves in the shoes of a business owner, to understand and empathise with their struggles regarding the business climate over the past year.
"If one incident shows up at your business, then your whole business get shutdown, 14-days, then contact tracing, they have to look at cameras, then your logbook to see who came," he said.
Business cannot afford to employ unvaccinated persons - Skelton-Cline
Mr Skelton-Cline, who is also a business owner, remarked that business owners cannot afford to have one person bring tremendous harm to their businesses, the community and country.
He called on Government to find some ways to make vaccinations mandatory and move the VI towards a higher vaccinated rate.
"I'm going to go a step further, [if] you are a permit holder in this country... working especially in the hospitality industry, I think we ought to make it mandatory for you to get vaccinated," he said.
COVID-19 vaccinations have been made mandatory for work-permit holders in the British Overseas Territory of Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI).
The VI government has; however, repeatedly said vaccinations will not be made mandatory on anyone in the territory.

BUT - we are still worried about the economy. Unless we as a country achieve a high enough vaccination rate to be considered safe, then the entry protocols will deter most holiday goers, those few who do come here will expect vaccination badges for taxi drivers, "bubble zones" will keep cruise ship passengers stuck to the pier park only, yacht guests won't be able to dine and party at the restaurants during their quarantine.
It already happened this year, the tourists went to where it was easiest, even after we "opened" in December till now we have received fewer tourists than we always saw in one week. You want to keep that up?
I for one want our place to go back to normal, tourists arriving with their vaccination cards, no testing or quarantines, free to go and spend everywhere and every hotel room and sailboat busy each week.
It will only take one thing to achieve that. You know what it is, but if you refuse, you are condemming us to prolonged misery.
Seems like reality ain't check you yet.
Sad.... Instead of focusing on the people who need financial assistant we here putting people lives in danger.
You really want that? Cuz keep it up, it's getting close.
When the cruise ships demand signs on stores saying wether all the employees are vaccinated, when only certain taxis are allowed to carry passengers, when only certified company buses are allowed to carry sailboat guests directly to their charter base, when hotels become closed bubbles and no tourists are free to roam and shop and spend at the stores and restaurants the economy will stay crippled.
I believed when government make a decision it should be respected, especially when it infringed on the rights of the people. It would hurt if the government made decision on a bill, that celergy people should not occupy a position in government, deal business with government or support government, they should leave the politics alone.
The expat people rights are constantly become a battle field, when they are weary about the treatment they will personally leave. Do you know how many families has leave this island since Covid and hurricane Irma, more than five hundred. If they are force to vaccinated, most will leave since their countries are not making it mandatory. And most of those people who leave are skilled construction expat.
I don't know what this gentleman projected ideas are about, if its politics he will have to run at large and his manifesto would only focus on the expat, a entity which is already fragile. Why not talk about the crappy internet service that has been allowed to take, take, take from the people. Tell us how the government can fix that.
As far as I see if you want to pressure, pressure everyone cause it only seems fair, not just work permit holders, cause a lot of work permit holders pretty much already have their first dose and second dose.
What should be done is to have like a doctor who knows a lot about the vaccine come and explain to everyone about the pros and cons. Cause as you can see people are still skeptical cause no one really explained much about it to the people and the people have a rights to know
