BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI– The Host of the Honestly Speaking radio show Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline has named several women he considers to be good political candidates worthy of consideration for the 2023 general elections in the [British] Virgin Islands.

“That’s the kind of person that I believe is worthy of consideration, serious consideration, in the next upcoming election. I believe that Perline Scatliffe is a good potential candidate, that meaningful consideration should be given to a person like her,” he said during the September 28, 2022, edition of his show on ZBVI 780 AM.

He further named Janice A. Stoutt and Arline T. Smith-Penn as other potential candidates for office, as well as former Fourth District candidate in the 2019 election, Ms Luce D. Hodge-Smith.

Skelton-Cline had previously named Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) Dame Janice M. George-Creque Pereira as a potential candidate for the office of Premier.

No conversations with Justice Pereira - Skelton-Cline

Skelton-Cline further detailed, “I have not had one single conversation with the Justice. I understand that she is scheduled to retire sometime this month from that post,” he said while indicating that he has no idea if Justice Pereira would have an interest in the job.

“This is the season for women and I am calling on you [women] to begin to roar not like a lion, like a lioness. We men have had this thing now for the last seven years,” he said.

He added that the men should now stand back and take on a supporting role to women in leadership positions.

Further, Skelton-Cline added that the women he named are good potential candidates.

He also noted that Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) and Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) still have a bright future for leadership; however, he reiterated that women should come forward to give birth to a new democracy in the VI.

Understand the humour in your comment, but despite the messenger (and he is a bad messenger), there are some good candidates mentioned.
Include also Sharon Flax-Brutus, Sheila George. Lorna Smith would be the best female candidate for Premier.
It is not about likeability or popularity, it is about competence.

So now you're pandering to the female voters with this new point of view. While nothing is wrong with females in politics, why do you think we need you to tell us? Why do you feel we need you guidance on this point? The good book says we shall know them by their fruits. why don't you use your radio time to repent and apologize to the nation, and try to save the souls of your friends. After all, you did say you had gangster proclivities. Do us all a favour and work on saving souls like a true man of god and leave politics to those who truly care without hidden agendas.

Perline is currently head of the Water & Sewerage Dept. Look at the performance there, that's what we want for the Territory? Claude is posturing and looking for new blood because he knows full well that the current lot are sick of him and won't give him any more contracts. He think he is slick but we won't be fooled. Go take a seat. You are the same one that said we should examine people's records when considering them for office. WSD is the WORST running govt department and you want us to elect that leader?

I heard that it has people working at W&S for well over 10 years and still not permanent and pensionable, and these are good workers. Where the hell we would be going with someone like that who cannot look out for the few people she has working with her. We cannot consider her for a larger portfolio.

In my humble opinion it has two fitting persons on that list, namely Mrs Penn and Mrs Smith. Try again Mr Skelton-Cline. I appreciate the suggestions.

What have either of them accomplished? Nothing! You have to look for hard working business women who don't sit down waiting for government to hand them a check whether they deserve it or not. Look for women that have accomplished significant through innovation, creativity and hard work, not these four government cronies.

Mister your endorsement of any candidate is a death knell for their future in politics.
You are well aware of the stigma of corruption and the climate of distrust within the VI Government which your involvement has contributed. You are a loathsome blob of human protoplasm. Kindly dissipate silently.

Well you already know neither VIP, NDP nor UP will give you another contract, so you are already campaigning for your contract? Me son, get a life!

This must be a slow news day and talk show host running out of substantial things to talk about, trying to stay relevant. No one can anoint who he/she thinks are good political candidates ( man or women). That is the role and responsibility of voters. Voters decide who is best qualified to serve as elected representatives. Political candidates must present their cases before voters and voters decide who are the best qualified. Election is a few months away. Do these anointed candidates interested in standing for office? Have voters heard from them? What are their solutions for the myriad of problems facing the BVI?

St Kitts, St, Lucia, Grenada, Barbados, already got leaders the modern leaders, to lead and fix the old corrupt system,, Only BVI and St. Vincent left to get real leaders to lead and fix the old corrupt system .Honestly, looked around and I yet to identify a real leader...Sowande is so disappointing. Shattered the people confidence and hope in him. He turned out to be a fake .

    I will suggest Elise Donovan
    Luce Hodge-Smith
    Bernadine Louis-Spence
    Nonie Georges
    Valencia Stoutt
    Althea Richardson-Crandall
    Sonia Brewely-Webster
    Marilyn Nibbs-Smith
    Faith Maduro-Powell
    Arlene Smith-Thompson
    Shereen Flax-Brutus

Say what you want, but if all types throwing in themselves we can think about others who apparently have more essence and motivation in the future of our Territory. We need People that have a strong Passion for their Country and not tactics for money and power.
