ETERINGBANG, Guyana - Six children were rescued on Tuesday after the canoe they were travelling in sank in the Cuyuni River near the Eteringbang Landing in Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni).

The children are all pupils of the Eteringbang Primary School, Police Headquarters reported.

They were reportedly returning from school to the Venezuelan border when water penetrated their canoe causing it to sink.

Public-spirited persons saw what transpired and went to their assistance where all of the children were readily rescued.

They were later taken to the Eteringbang Health Centre where they were examined with their parents present. The children were reportedly in good physical health, though traumatized.
