BUDAPEST, Hungary- Before the race, commentators were billing it as a heavyweight event worthy of pay per view status and that it was going to be among the three fastest men in the world in the Final of the 400m Hurdles at the World Athletic Championships in Budapest. Kyron A. McMaster of the [British] Virgin Islands; however, was not to be left out.

Minutes ago, August 23, 2023, McMaster battled his way to a silver medal in the race won by World Record Holder Karsten Warholm of Norway.

McMaster upset the USA’s Rai Benjamin and Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos of Brazil, the send and third fastest men ever in the 400m hurdles, to ensure a podium finish this time around after finishing 4th at Worlds in 2019 and also 4th at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, behind Warholm, Banjamin and Dos Santos.

The [British] Virgin Islander, the reigning Commonwealth Games Champion, found himself in 3rd place on the final turn, slightly ahead of Dos Santos.

As Benjamin appeared to be tying up, McMaster found an extra gear to go past the American to claim a historic Silver for the Virgin Islands in a time of 47.34.

Warholm clocked 46.89 and Benjamin 47.56.

It is the first-ever medal at the World Championships for the Virgin Islands.

He did what no other BVIslander was able to do in 40+ years. He wasn't even born when this thing started. Amazing and congratulations to him. First world championship medal. He deserves 40+ years of salary from the government, his own museum, land, house, endorsements, scholarships and a big lumpsum.
