Sheldon Scatliffe to be appointed new Board Chairman @ BVIEC

-appointment to run for a period of three years with possible extension via reappointment

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Mr Sheldon Scatliffe has received Cabinet approval to be appointed as Chairman of the BVI Electricity Corporation's (BVIEC) Board, according to Cabinet statements released on Friday, June 23, 2023.

The decision was made in the Cabinet meeting of June 7, 2023, chaired by His Excellency, Governor John J. Rankin, at the Premier's Conference Room where all members were present.

According to statements of meeting, it said, “Mr. Sheldon Scatliffe be appointed as Chairman of the BVI Electricity Corporation's Board, in accordance with section 4 (1)(a) of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation Ordinance (Cap. 277), with effect from the date that approval for such appointment has been obtained by a Resolution passed by the House of Assembly and subject to section 5 of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation Ordinance (Cap. 277).”

Appointment will run for three years 

The appointment will run for a period of three years and may be reappointed for any further period of three years the statement added.

It further added that the Ministry of Communications and Works instruct the Attorney General's Chambers to draft the Resolution, and that Resolution will be approved by the House of Assembly at the next convenient Sitting in accordance with Section 4 (1)(a) of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Ordinance, Cap 277.

Further, as Chairman of the Board, Mr Scatliffe would be paid one thousand dollars per month by attendance for his services on the BVI Electricity Corporation's Board.

Mr. Scatliffe was previously on the BVIEC’s board as a member according to information on their website. The outgoing Chairman of the board is Mrs Rosemarie Flax, whose appointment commenced on November 15, 2019.

    Some of the comments are really disrespectful. I knew this young man as a child, properly trained. His mom worked at former First Penn Bank and later Banco and his father worked at BVIEC for most his life. In fact, he could have been seen making sure the electricity parking lot was spick and span even though he had an administrative position. The young man is not one on a political ladder and hand in corruption going on as if he is the big one. Do well Mr. Scatliffe. Hold your head high and do your job with integrity
