‘Sheer arrogance!’ Hon Fraser objects to derelict vehicles storage returning to SCB

According to a Government Information Service (GIS) press release on June 2, 2023, Mr Allen said DWM through the Ministry of Health and Social Development is collaborating with KMJ General Maintenance to remove all derelict vehicles and other scrap metals from Pockwood Pond and shipped off the island and that the hope is that the storage and processing of derelicts will be returned to Sea Cows Bay.
Mr Allen also stated that the 2017 hurricanes had destroyed many vehicles, which caused a strain on the space for derelict vehicle storage in Sea Cows Bay.
Opposition Member and Third District Representative Hon Julian Fraser RA; however, is not welcoming to the idea of derelicts returning to Sea Cows Bay in the Third District.
‘Dastardly act’
“You know my position on this issue, and I think it’s sheer arrogance on the part of these self-appointed Gods to be deciding what the face of a community should look like. But let them try that dastardly act and they will suffer the consequences,” Hon Fraser told our news centre on June 6, 2023.
The derelict vehicles at Sea Cows Bay were considered a sore eye and were particularly embarrassing when horse races were held at Ellis Thomas Downs.
At one time, the VI Horse Owners Association had even put up a screen to block out the derelict vehicles in the background.
According to Hon Fraser, the government had decades to find a means of disposing of derelicts and they have failed to come up with a solution.
“They can ship them overseas, they can create artificial reefs. No innovative initiative being displayed by the officers nor governments over the period.
“What happened to the land around the incinerator?” Hon Fraser asked.
The former storage facility at Sea Cows Bay currently appears to be a storage site for dumpsters. A derelict vehicle, a small boat, and an old excavator were also on the land when our cameraman visited the site today, June 6, 2023.
Scrap metals exported to Columbia
Meanwhile, Mr Allen said the removal of derelict vehicles from the Pockwood Pond storage site began on April 11, 2023, and the loading of the scrap metals on the barge began on May 25.
He said since then, over two thousand tons of scrap metals were processed and loaded.
The scrap metal is being exported to Columbia for recycling purposes.

Arrogance is to sit here in 2023 and try to be vocal on a topic like this. Second to the dump east end looks like sea cows is by far the most disgusting armpit of Tortola. How many years have to pass before the playhouse is closed by health for operating in such a state of filth with an Irma wrecked building on top? Then there’s all the derelict yachts wrecked in the bay that are almost entirely owned by Tortolans. Simply check the registration and you will see who owns all these wrecks.
The place look that way. What a few mashed up cars going to hurt.
Not sure that has anything to do with Arrogance. Pick another word to describe next time!
