ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Superintendent of Prisons Mr David Foot has disclosed that a woman who is serving time at Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) in Balsam Ghut for manslaughter has been granted parole.

Mr Foot was at the time addressing the launch of the 2015 edition of Follow the Movement’s (FTM) 'show Love' seminar for fourth and fifth form girls on October 8, 2015. Some 280 girls from schools across the Virgin Islands, with the exception of students from Anegada, will be attending the seminar slated for Thursday October 15, 2015 at UP’s Ballroom in Road Town.

“The lady that was with me last year has been successful in being granted parole,” Mr Foot said of Ms Shanoviah Thomas, who addressed participants of the seminar last year.

The Superintendent of Prisons further said Ms Thomas is the only one to have been granted parole at the first sitting of the newly instituted Parole Board. “And well deservingly so,” he said.

It is this news site’s information that the Board is set to sit again sometime later this month.

At last year’s session, Ms Thomas gave the harsh reality of prison life for a woman. She also blasted prison officers for allegedly stripping inmates of their human rights and heavily victimising inmates without just cause.

“Up there is college… what you don’t know you will learn,” Ms Thomas had warned.

Thomas was sentenced to ten years for manslaughter by reason of provocation involving a domestic violence matter.

The theme of the one-day seminar is ‘Show Love’ and would see a number of influential figures in the territory imparting knowledge that can help shape the participants future in a positive way.

Participants of the Show Love seminar will also hear from keynote speaker Ms Kimberley Ritter, formerly of Safe Zone in St Thomas but now with Tortola Concrete. Miss Ritter is passionate about being an inspiration to young women, especially with her background of being a counsellor at the prison level, although on a more international scene.

very thing that is bad, our society takes it up: this woman took someone's life and now walking free: my question, how can another person in jail for a lesser offence be denied parole( I am simply asking a question ) don't do the crime is you can't do the time...let me also say this and who vex vex; this same person was given bail during her trial yet other persons are not granted bail for a dime bag....

She took an animal's life. How would you feel if you were in a relationship where you were constantly being abused by your partner? Give the darn girl a break. Some of us are too unforgiving. Suppose God was like you, a lot of us would have been dead; not in prison, dead? Cast a stone at the woman if you have done nothing wrong in your life.

Sentenced for manslaughter by reason of provocation.

Well, it seems that people are hell bent on provoking others. This weekend self an attempt to provoke me was made. But God was in the midst and He is still in the midst.

Matthew 10: 36 says: Indeed, a man's enemies will be those of his own household. BUT, our weapons of warfare are not of the flesh - 2 Corinthians 10: 4.

Why are we being told about Shenovia? They turned loose Pumpkin on an unsuspecting community without a murmur. I haven't heard or seen anything in the media about a sexual pervert having served his time now back out in society. Shenovia have family to go home to I hope. Does he? Where is he? Can he go back to Jost Van Dyke? Is he in the homeless shelter or in a hotel paid for by government? What is he doing? Did he get any help in prison for his problem? Is he employable or are we going to support him for the rest of his days. Shenovia is talking to school children and Rotary. This man is a danger to society and he's out free as a bird and we are reading about Shenovia and commenting on the appropriateness of her being out on parole. Is Shenovia likely to kill again or is Pumpkin more likely to rape again? I'd rather know where he is and what he's up to than Shenovia. Let's hear about him.

@ ignorance is bliss: you said the man did his time(meaning that he did complete his sentence): the young woman is out of jail on parole... I am simply suggesting that the two of them get a room together ( should be fun!) just saying

Y'all need to keep off off Shenovia for once, I was living in the same area as Shenovia back in the days when she committed her crime and it was a said thing to see..but the man lead her to it. How would anyone feel getting abused for no reason, youre leaving your home to go somewhere and being threaten if you do not reach back home at a certain time and constantly getting beaten?
I agree to say that it shouldn't have went that far as to kill him but she couldn't deal with it anymore and when you're constantly beaten on someone that you're suppose to be loving it tends to mess with them mentality and emotionaly.

@ ridiculous : lets all take the law in to our own hands: why you did not take her to live with you and shelter her from the constant abuse you knew about the frequent incidents

PUMPKIN WAS RELEASED AND HE DIDNT LAST TWO MONTHS, AND HE IS NOW BACK IN PRISON.she got the counselling that she needed and he didn't obviously. For your information. Shonovia does have a family and is doing well and for those of you who wish for her to fall I pray that you don't fall or have never fallen in your life. And I hope God cleanse your bad minded hearts. He without sin cast the first stone. You all don't know what she went through. She is a strong positive woman with a bright future.

There is this man who is from here. He married a woman not from here. He treated her like a dog, like a slave. He beat her numerous times and threw her out of their home in the middle of the night numerous times. Embarrassing her in front of neighbors. This last time he threw her out, she did not go back to him because she felt either she or he would be dead. Now he is up and down looking for her so he can divorce her. SMH. More women need to leave these abusive mates even if it means sleeping a social development until they find you a place.

People who does not know anything about being in an abusive relationship or of being abuse should go talk to people who went through abuse and are being abuse. Then and only then will they understand what abuse is and what people go through who are being abuse. It is a sad thing that people " especially women" have to go to prison when they kill some one who were abusing them. Sometimes they take out restraining order against these people and still get kill and leave their children if they have any to suffer at the hand of people who abuse them. So for some of you who have family who is abusing others you should take some time of and think if it was you in that person position how you would have felt." Do unto others as you would have them unto you." Think . Thank you.

For all you haters who thinks Shonovia got a gift by going on parole she didn't. If my calculations are right she was scheduled for release in November this year. She has to answer to a Board of intrusive people who practically want to see her panty. As far as I can see she got a poor deal..she's just a lab rat for their board. Out in four month or two years of torture...y'all do the maths...
