Shame! Shame! Shame! On Myron V. Walwyn-VINO lashes back
It is with great sadness that at the seventh sitting of the second session of the second House of Assembly held on April 8, 2013 Myron V. Walwyn, a Minister of Government in the National Democratic Party Administration, used his parliamentary privilege to yet again attack the media houses and inferred about the credibility of stories written by one news site.
While the Minister was clever not to call any names of any media houses, or in particular any online news site, it’s fair to conclude he was targeting his unprofessional and baseless hostility towards Virgin Islands News Online.
It is sad that the Minister for Education and Culture, Mr. Walwyn, will use the House of Assembly to campaign for re-election and start his tired, dull, boring, outdated attack on our news site. What another sad day for all Virgin Islanders, the integrity of the House of Assembly and our young democracy.
Over the past three years of operation, Virgin Islands News Online has, and if the Minister is honest with his conscience he will agree, cemented itself as solid, factual, creditable, accurate and only produces objective, fair and balanced reporting.
We can do this because we are not linked or controlled by any political parties or families and therefore, we will never use the site to go after anyone or carry out personal attacks, agenda or score settling.
This, we might add, is the basis of professional journalism and what all reporters and media organisations in the Virgin Islands should aspire to achieve.
We continue to take our role in building the Territory very serious and continue to promote social, racial, and religious harmony and have great respect and admiration for all those who have come to live among us.
The Minister for Education and Culture, Mr Walwyn, is well aware of this superior record but for his own selfish political desperation chose to suggest otherwise. His attack in the House of Assembly, where he inferred to our news site, can only be regarded as disgusting, tasteless, lacking credibility and objectivity, and speaks volumes about him as a person and his character.
Others have asked whether he maybe fit to represent the people of the Virgin Islands and have also questioned his mental stability as a legislator.
In a time in our history when the banks are foreclosing and repossessing residents’ homes, cars and land, children are hungry in some schools, teachers and parents are shocked with the lack of basic resources at schools, and all sports coaches are crying out for help and support from his Ministry, he used his privileges and presence in the House of Assembly to waste time with petty and senseless items such as attacking the media.
Mr Walwyn could better use his time striving to assist youths in finding meaningful employment, encouraging higher education and working to strengthen our social institutions.
May we be forward thinking in recommending that the elders in the House of Assembly sit him down and explain to him his role as a member of the House of Assembly from his constant embarrassment of himself and his own colleagues. You will note that no other legislator behaves in this childish and uncultured manner!
If his only objective is to get the attention of our esteemed founder Julian Willock, then we humbly and politely suggest that he not waste his time like a top spinning in the mud!
We could not close without continuing to thank our many readers, advertisers and our team of reporters from around the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean and also our media partners locally, regionally and internationally for the support, wise counsel and commitment to free speech, facts, and objectivity.

This guy has people breaking out of prison at will; a simple fire at the college since last year has the cullenary arts center closed till now. Schools in a mess, sad state of disrepair; forcet abou recreation facilities around the territory, and he has time to be attacking the media?
While all citizens, including elected officials, have the right to freely express their thoughts, when governments publicly scold the media, or when top officials personally attack individual journalists or media houses—whether verbally or electronically, a message is sent to the public that harassment of the media is acceptable. We must not let this happen to the BVI!!
Not to worry; elections just around the corner and the very same media houses the young man continues to beat-up on, he might just need then; oh!!! my-bad he has his “mates” at “55”; House of Assembly is free-media-time BUT a small group of us(yes citizens) think the Hon Minister for education should take that free-air-time and tell the young men & women when he intend to repair the High-School for them; Myron needs to use that free-air-time and tell the children at that high school when he plans on taking them from under those HOT tents, the same young man needs to use that “free-air-time” and let the children of this territory know when he plans to give them proper cafeteria at the high school...MOST importantly that same “Minister” should use the free-air-time given to him during House of Assembly and let the Citizens, Residents and Visitors of the territory know what he plan on doing about those “old men” that molest out “little girls and boys”...As a matter of fact NOT one member of that House of Assembly raise those issues(what a shame) their main concern is how them look in the eyes-of-the-media, while our your girls continue to be abused.....during that last sitting the “DOG” being used by the Police force now have more protection under the law than the Children of this country....”Myron” you need to just get-a-grip and shut the @#$%^ up !!!!!!!!
just a comment for "you dreaming"....dont you think the leaders of this country needs to address the child abuse problems... this country have so many serious issues as it relates to OUR young-people; all home-boy concernred with is the MEDIA; evey sitting Myron & Archie with the same dumb f@#%...run go talk that !!!!!
And with Frazer actually standing and making comments afterwards, obviously the cap did fit and Frazer wore it but did not like wearing it!
The motto of the day: Tell the truth even if it's painful and even if the venue is not politically correct, TELL THE TRUTH!
He spends his time trying to make himself look good and putty the vip and other members of the NDP in a bad light.
None of those Antigua’s (Myron and Archie) have no shame so what’s new.
I would ask the civil servants, teachers etc. who are resonsible for the things you mentioned. what are we paying them for? Education is the only one with a Ministry AND a department. what are they being paid for if simple things like that can't get done? Don't start no $h1t. People need to do their jobs.
I do not propose to join the fray.
I’m not capable of it, but only to say the country has lost all respect of some members in the house of assembly and wonder why they are there!!!
Next point- two weeks of training in teacher licensure cannot prepare anyone in becoming a visionary and leading a school. This is misguided at its best.
During the leadership of the VIP Dr. The Honourable Kedrick Pickering lamented about the number of days students were out of school. NDP take note- marking of school leaving April 15-16, the following two weeks instructional time will be missed on pre-sports day events, and sports the following week May 2-3. Hence Minister Walwyn the first three weeks of school at ESHS will be difficult to count as continuity will be broken several times.
Secondly, take my advise and contact your close buddy at ESHS resource center and become an inform Minister as to the progress of the books. Please do not take the word of your trusted staff.
ACTING CEO needs a bit of work but she does what is necessary for the betterment of our Education System-This is your biggest problem, what is necessary is not always right, just or importance. Many importance matters fall through the cracks, because necessary is without vision, necessary is without knowledge of best practice, necessary is without consultation of others. The Ministry of Education is not a private institution, it is a public institution that must take into account the stakeholders. necessity is something we do in a state of emergency and the only emergency at hand is to change your CEO and you.
Finally, do not waste your time, your fate is sealed, your seat is up for grabs, trust me I am a real insider in your ministry. I am not your ally, be inform your adversary is your closest and one of your most trusted workers.
