ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Word reaching our news centre from reliable senior sources at the Virgin Islands branch of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, is that there has been a major shakeup within the past few weeks.

Country Manager, Mr Amory Jervis is out and is leaving his post at the end of December 2022, a job he held only since April of last year.

It is unknown why Mr Jervis, a seasoned banker who joined FirstCaribbean International Bank in 2017 is out, however, the same sources noted that they believed his job has become redundant.

He is expected to be replaced by Mr Fabian S. Devonish, the Retail Branch Manager however,  is unclear what his new title will be. When reached today via phone Mr Devonish declined to comment to our newsroom on this matter.

Banks under fire?

Banks in the Territory have come under fire over the past three years, for poor service, high-interest rates, and long lines outside their locations, with customers facing the elements, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many talk show hosts and Legislators have continued to criticize the banking sector for their treatment of local customers and the many foreclosures.

The outgoing Country Manager Mr Jervis is a member of the Chartered Bankers Institute in Scotland and earned an MBA from Bangor University and a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from the Project Management Institute, as well as other numerous industry-specific qualifications.

Up to publication time, Mr Jervis could not be reached for comments.

there needs to be a dramatic shift in the people we give our territory to develop

the politicians runs to house of assembly to pass laws to ensure the financial services sector is compliant

meanwhile the banks functioning in the territory continually take the small man for a deadly ride and those we placed in position to represent our interests does not

the banks will quickly sell off your property before sitting to see how best a mutually beneficial arrangement can be reached

Managers don't make no difference. It's all about the staff and their commitment and attitude...Some staff can't be spoken to, can't be desciplined, they will continue doing what they want and no manager can do anything....Look at First Bank and Banco, you can't get service at custom service desk, workers move like they don't care, . How oftef they changed managers? Often

commercial banks are an essential member of the BVI economy. The residents of islands without banks(Anegada, JVD) or 1 bank(VG) struggle to survive in the BVI economy. Their normal customer service is poor because they only care about their wealthy customers who make money for the banks.

I amazed how we could take a simple matter and turn it into politics, nationalism or race. I am not too sure why this make news but the most sensible bloggers here are those who use it to highlight the plight of customer service provided by these banks some of which are mentioned in the article. Example, high interest rates long line outside the buildings where customers have to endure sun, rain, and dust for hours before being allowed inside the building. They have to wait another two or three hours before being seen by an agent. It not unusual to spend five or six hours to see a Customer Care Representative and some people have to take an entire day off from work to do banking. I am only asking these questions because Customer Service is mentioned. What about going to the DMV? Is there another company Government or otherwise you could highlight with poor Customer Service?

You might find yourself going from the Turtle to the Snail. All have the same attitude, same issues, Those who born here and those who don't, I wonder why they don't care, I wonder why there is no passion for the Job,, In all other Caribbean countries bank jobs are the top jobs and the hardest to get, because the requirements are of such high standard, Only in the BVI. I do Believe they are the right people out here who will deliver A class customer service, So maybe the problem is in the hiring,,, And or their no work permit policy. Until they start hiring the best candidate work permit or not, the service will continue to decline..

God is still on his throne! He neither sleep nor slumber. The one they have now will soon see the hand of God. You cannot do people as you like and feel for one second God will allow you to get away. What was done to him was unfair and unjust! What was done to him was over politics and who promised who position! But while they sit in the chair and wait for title the sand from the hour glass is running out! People know alot of what's going on behind close doors but in due time justice will be serve for all who suffered at the hands of the new one now. God do not sleep!
