ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The headlines of articles published on online news sites are sometimes sensational “to create some kind of buzz” which prompt readers to comment ignorantly based on the headlines, stated talk show host Natalio Wheatley on “Umoja”, a radio programme, that was aired last evening, January 5, 2012.

The talk show host said the negative comments is seen to him as “a certain lack of maturity that we have in our society”.

“And I am not saying that it’s a majority of our people who do it. I would certainly like to see a situation where people who disagree do so politely and with love because we ultimately want our brothers and sisters to go in the right direction,” the member of the People’s Patriotic Alliance (PPA) added.

Meanwhile, co-host Cromwell Smith urged the media fraternity to join the talk show hosts in understanding what they are trying to do for the community.

“Use that power not to harm our people, not to keep them in ignorance, not to keep them divided, not to keep them in hostility, but to advance them…the way we need to think in order for us to be successful as a country,” he stressed.

He noted that comments make lively debates, whether an individual is against or for a certain topic, and are crucial to the advancement of the Virgin Islands (VI).

But sometimes some bloggers take it to a personal level.

“When you make a comment that simply attack a person personally or call names or try to vilify another brother or sister you are really not making any contribution to the discussion. What you’re doing is creating a division and hostility, which is negative to the country,” Smith charged.

I have no problem with that my dear, the bloggers have a voice and keeps subjects in line (most of the time), my problem is with misleading captions which help instigate a long sheet of ignorant, meainingless posts

That is exactly what the article is about and the coments are showing the same narrowness. we should not comunicate in a cruel, non compassionate way. but guess what every-one gives what they have. And the mayority of us prophessed to know Christ! we should imitate HIM.

It appears to be a rating thing by hese media outlet. If you have a policy and supposed to have these postings check then how why and how did the bloggers wih their filth, insults and nasty attitudes get aired. I think it is high time that the ministry responsible for communication get involve in controlling these outlets. Where the reins are nonexistent we have war of words and an athmosphere where sensible engagement is almost like wild west. I hope that the media officiate these blogs as hey aught to. If this get through it would be great. They usually don't. diathchecks
