Senior Spartan Selkridge records 1000th Kill


Reigning SSC and South Region Player of the Year, Selkridge also leads Tampa with 205 kills to go with a .419 hitting percentage and 60 blocks- all team highs. She currently sits fourth in the nation in hitting percentage with a .423 clip.
The swift-swinging senior posted 13 kills on the match to become the 16th player in the programme’s history to reach the 1000 kill plateau, just days after leading the Spartans to the programme's 1000th win.
Tampa improved to 15-2 on the season with an unbeaten 8-0 record in the Sunshine State Conference.
Junior Holly Reschke grounded a team-leading 15 kills to compliment Selkridge. The tandem swung at an even .500 attack percentage while sophomore Meagan Burke swatted seven kills in addition to providing solid defense with eight blocks.
The Spartans took a first set win by a 25-20 margin. Barry battled back in the second frame to even the match, but Selkridge returned the advantage to Tampa as the senior tallied five kills in six swings in the 25-18 third set win.
Selkridge’s personal achievement came after the programme’s 1,000th victory in Wednesday’s five-set thriller at Eckerd , in which Selkridge turned in a 26 kill performance to give Tampa the milestone.
Tampa became just the eighth NCAA Division II programme to reach a millennial win and the fourth fastest to accomplish the feat (33 seasons). Florida Southern College represents the only other SSC team with the accolade.
Four Spartans tallied double-digit kills in Selkridge, Meagan Burke, Holly Reschke and Jessica Yingling. Net – tender Selkridge also blocked five attacks.
Eckerd took the premier set of play 20-25, but the Spartans rallied in the second set behind another dominating performance by Selkridge with six kills in a 25-16 victory.
Eckerd spoiled another strong performance from Selkridge, as the senior grounded another five kills, but the Tritons pulled off a 25-23 third set win. However ,some late set magic, or seven kills from Selkridge, gave the Spartans a 26-24 fourth set win.
Tampa took the fifth set of play by a score of 17-15 as Selkridge grounded the match winning kill to continue conference perfection.
