Selkridge leads Unbeaten Spartans to victory in Florida!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Danielle Selkridge and the No. 7 University of Tampa volleyball team travelled to Florida Southern College on Saturday November 3, 2012 and returned home with a three set victory to remain perfect in Conference Play.

Selkridge’s Spartans now lead the Sunshine State Conference with a 12-0 mark, and a 23-3 overall record.  The Mocs of Florida Southern fall to 17-11 and 7-5 SSC.

Senior Danielle Selkridge once again led the Spartans in kills and attack percentage, finishing with 11 kills on the afternoon.  The senior swung for a perfect 5-5, raising her already SSC-best .478 attack percentage as the Spartans took the first set 25-20.

The second set went the way of Selkridge and her team mates 25-13 and despite a strong come back from the Mocs they took the third 25-22.

The Spartans rampage through Florida had begun the previous night when they swept Saint Leo University.

Middle hitter, Selkridge continued her superb season by leading the Spartans with 15 kills.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the premier set, and played consistently finishing with a 25-20 win. Holly Reschke was the catalyst from the start, recording six kills on nine swings, and good for a .556 attack percentage. Selkridge added some insurance on both sides of play. The reigning SSC and South Region Player of the Year recorded five kills and two block solos.

For the second frame, Tampa looked to Selkridge again. The senior added six of the Spartans 13 kills. The team, as a whole, recorded an impressive .423 attack percentage, with Reschke, Jessica Yingling, Meagan Burke, Marissa Lisenbee and Megan Heffron all getting in on the action. Setter Kahley Patrick contributed nine assists and two digs, leading to a 25-16 second set victory.

Tampa continued its consistent play into the third stanza, posting a 25-12 victory. Tampa showed its solid defensive play with five total team blocks. Selkridge, Burke, Lisenbee and Megan Heffron paced the Spartan offense with multiple kills.

The Spartans will return next weekend for a slate of Sunshine State Conference matchups. Tampa will take on Nova Southeastern University on Friday, November 9, 2012, and Lynn University on Saturday, November 10. Both games will be home matchups for UT, taking place at the Bob Martinez Center.
