Selkridge is a perfect 10!
The Spartans improve to 17-2 on the season while the visiting Blazers drop to 12-9. Tampa has won its last 11 matches heading into day two of the tournament.
Selkridge dominated the first set with a five kill showing in as many chances. The senior also tallied a service ace in the 25-16 win. The middle hitter mirrored her first set performance with another pristine five kills. The UT squad won the second stanza by a 25-12 margin.
Kim Amerell led Tampa to victory as the junior planted five kills of her own in the final set of play. Outside hitting Heffron contributed four kills in the third frame as Tampa sealed the victory with a 25-21 win.
However, on Friday night even Selkridge with 20 kills was powerless to stop the Spartans losing their 35 game winning streak as their south region nemesis, the No. 22 University of West Florida, won 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-27, 25-27).
West Florida snapped Tampa’s 35-game home winning streak, dating back to 2010 when the five-time national champion, Concordia Golden Bears defeated the home squad.
The loss gives the Spartans a 17-3 record while the prevailing Argonauts improve to 16-6 on the season. The loss represents the UT squad’s only blemish in regional play in their 2012 campaign.
Selkridge swung at a .633 attack percentage. The 6’2 middle hitter also blocked five UWF swings.
The Spartans return to the court today to face a pair of South Region foes in West Georgia and Christian Brothers. Tampa faces UWG at 11 A.M. and CBU at 5:45 P.M. to round out the Red Elephant Café South Region Crossover.
