ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Seventh Day Adventist Primary School were crowned Touch Rugby Champions on Friday February 6, 2015 after they overcame a tenacious Enis Adams Primary School team, 4-0, in the final of the BVI Rugby Union tournament played on the Old Recreation Ground.

Eight Schools turned up to vie for the Championship from morning until early afternoon under a blistering sun at the venue, more well known for its softball, but turned into a Mecca of Touch Rugby for the day.

The match of the day in Group A saw Cedar A squeeze past Leonora Delville, 5-4, but wins for Enis Adams against Cedar, 2-0 and a pair of draws against Leonora Delville (2-2) and Ivan Dawson Primary (3-3) saw them reach the final.

Other results in the group included a 1-0 win for LDPS against Ivan Dawson and a 5-0 win for Cedar over IDPS.

In Group B, SDA beat Cedar B, 1-0, Ebenezer Thomas Primary beat Francis Lettsome Primary, 2-0, SDA beat FLPS, 1-0, ETPS drew with Cedar, 2-2, SDA sneaked past ETPS, 3-2 and FLPS beat Cedar 2-0.

In the match for third and fourth, Cedar beat ETPS, 3-1.

“The Seventh Day Adventist School worked really hard and played good team Rugby,” commented BVI Rugby Union Development Officer, Sherlock “Solo” Solomon. “They were unbeaten in the tournament and thoroughly deserved their win.”

Solomon was also pleased to see that two new teams were contesting the final after Cedar International had dominated over the past couple of years. “We had maximum participation today and with two new teams playing for the Championship, it just goes to show all the schools are getting more competitive and learning the game. Most of the games were closely contested and highly competitive.”
