ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Churches in the Virgin Islands are ‘putting down their feet’ against the scourge of gun violence in the territory.

The various SDA churches will be engaged in a March of Witness against Gun Violence in Road Town from 3:30pm today, April 9, 2022.

March Route

The march will begin at Festival Grounds and make its way down De Castro Street, into Administration Drive, up Waterfront Drive, into Fishlock Road, then Long Bush, Lower Estate, Huntums Ghut, Station Road and back to Festival Grounds.

According to Pastor Leriano R.J. Webster, the SDA Church is aware of the issue of gun violence and the grief that it has been causing families.

Public awareness

“In recent times our families and our community have been greatly affected, losing loved ones due to gun violence; hence, pastors, uniform bodies and members of the church will be marching as a way of creating public awareness of the need to end gun violence in our small close-knitted society,” Pastor Webster told Virgin Islands News Online.

Pastor Webster said the SDA church deeply cares and is expressing condolences to all those who have lost loved ones.

“The church hopes and pray that we as a community can live in truth, love and harmony. Remember BVI love is who we are!”

Hope Beyond evangelistic series

The March of Witness will also be used to herald a grand 3-week evangelistic series, dubbed Hope Beyond, with evangelist Samuel Telemaque slated for Festival Grounds from April 15, 2022.

“The church believes that this series will restore hope, happiness and joy in the lives of our residents in the community,” Pastor Webster stated.

There have already been two fatal shootings in the Virgin Islands for the year and several arrests for gun-related offences.

There is currently a firearm amnesty in the VI.

I am not an Adventist but i must admit, I know not all of them are sincere. However, I admire their courage and the standard of life they are expected to live as believers for God.
I will encourage all young people to take a page from the book an average SDA Youth. I Love their Drum Co as it also keep young people together.

The Bible says the wheat and the tares shall grow together. Even in the true church, this is so. It is why we keep our eyes on the One who is flawless.

We are all on different levels of spirituality on the same journey. We must pray for each other, be encouraging, and ensure we do not cause our brothers and sisters to stumble.

Why didn't the churches and faiths not join together and March together against this evil ? Gun violence affects the entire country. I pray for my beloved Virgin Islands.

True, it shouldn't even be limited to churches. The entire BVI should come out against this. Better yet, when there is a gun amnesty in place.

I guess it’s a good thing but not sure what it actually accomplishes.

It impresses on the minds of the people, especially young people, in the church and community that gun violence is not the answer to solve our problems. The awareness must be created and felt. This is one small way. It offers a solution...vengeance is mine says the Lord.

"What will it accomplish?" Let me tell you... It will accomplish taking a stand against the slaughtering of our sons. It will accomplish letting the community know the church is a part of you. It will accomplish being the salt of the earth. It will accomplish the good news of salvation is sweet and the best decision our youth can do is to accept the invitation. It will accomplish a whole lot more too. My question to you is... When' do the church act? What law making power does the church have? What did the march apartheid accomplish? What did the civil rights march with the late Dr. Main Luther King accomplish? Were the results immediate? When the church is passive. It is criticized. When it speaks out is criticized. So let the church be!

I do understand the Seventeenth Day Adventist concern in reference to Gun violence accurance in the BVI. But as far as I know, marching against crimes, especially gun violence anywhere in this world has never, and will not be able to show reductio, much less bring to an endgun violence, honest prayers, and community unty will greatly help to reduce guns, and other violence behaviour here in the BVI. A physical marcg void of loving togetherness won't is insufficient by far.
Truth hurts only those the hates its healing medicine.

The church's duty is to teach us about the righteousness of God. By they marching, I hope WE are awaken to their presence and will earnestly seek to know about our Creator and obey Him. If we obey Him there will be zero crime. But we know from His Word, that broad is the way and most choose that path that lead to destruction.

I wonder if Guy Hill knows that the SDA doesn't like to mix with other religions.....
