SCRUB ISLAND, VI – Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, regarded as the exclusive luxury retreat in the Virgin Islands, has appointed internationally respected wellness professional Dr Arun Kumar as Spa Manager of its signature Ixora Spa.

A leader in holistic health and luxury spa operations, Dr Kumar brings nearly two decades of global experience to the private island resort, known for its elevated Caribbean escape and commitment to wellbeing.

“Dr Arun’s extraordinary blend of clinical knowledge, holistic healing, and luxury spa leadership aligns beautifully with the experience we offer at Scrub Island,” said Sandra Grisham-Clothier, General Manager of Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, in a press release.

“His deep-rooted belief in natural therapies and customized wellness journeys will elevate Ixora Spa to new heights for our guests, locals and marina clientele alike,” Grishma-Clothier added.

Career highlights

Dr Kumar most recently served as Fitness & Wellness Activity Manager at Rosewood Little Dix Bay, a Forbes Five-Star resort on Virgin Gorda, where he introduced immersive wellness programming and launched a state-of-the-art Fitness & Sports Club.

His career highlights include key spa and wellness leadership roles at Oil Nut Bay Resort, Necker Island, and Biras Creek Resort, where he developed tailored wellness plans for discerning travelers, including elite global clientele.

Holding a Doctorate in Natural Therapies and Yogic Sciences, along with an MBA, Dr Kumar is also a Registered Fitness Professional with the ITY Federation in France. He brings extensive expertise in luxury spa brands such as Biologique Recherche, ELEMIS, ESPA, and Healing Earth.

Drawing inspiration from tropical botanicals and Ayurvedic healing traditions, Ixora Spa offers a curated selection of treatments – from the signature Abhyanga massage and herbal poultice therapy to tropical body scrubs infused with coconut, papaya, and mango.

With wellness tourism continuing to trend among today’s luxury travelers, Scrub Island Resort said Dr Kumar’s arrival positions Ixora Spa – and Scrub Island Resort – as one of the most compelling wellness destinations in the Caribbean.

You're like a broken record with this. If a local was the best person and most qualified for the job, they would have been given the job. Just because you're from here does not mean you're the most qualified for the job. It's the same all over the world.

The spa at Scrub Island needs a complete overhaul. First you will need to make sure the rooms are swept clean and sanitized, then you need experienced therapists.
