THE SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI - The "Anegada Lobster Festival" a three-day event that highlights Anegada and the love for seafood has seen its 11th edition entertain and feed scores of lobster lovers in the weekend ending Sunday, November 26, 2023.

As part of this year’s events, there were several new features at the BVI Tourist Board organized event.

Among the new features, were additional ferries from within the territory including, for the first time, New Horizon Ferry from Jost Van Dyke along with ferries from neighboring USVI in St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St John districts.

The addition of a fun park facilitated by the BVI Recreation Trust also served as a new feature.

Smaller crowds?

However, many noted that crowds were less than that of 2022.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) also shared the view that the turnout was much smaller than in previous years.

"It was a lot of energy this year, the vibe was definitely very good but the crowd was not as big as last year."

However, like years of the past, restaurants like Big Bamboo, Lil Bit, Anegada Reef, and Potter By The Sea remained the hot spots for lobster lovers.

Hon Wheatley added, “We definitely saw many more people last year, I am not sure what's the reason. Maybe the PR needed to be better."

#1. Reason is money. the fest fell close to month end and not month end. public servants got salt.
#2. $50 for a lobster. a [scavenger] plus, boat fee, clothes, drinks etc.
#3. Good entertainment to match the expense.

blame the weather. Friday was Ok but it's a work day. Saturday was dismal, grey all day with showers. Sunday was a little better than Sat. but not much.

I just realize this thing about people and children going to bed hungry is a myth. People is always crying out about they cannot buy food and food is to expensive but they can find money for the latest this and that. Oh forgot, everyone here is sleeping with each other for money.

Just a bunch of people filling there stomach with over priced sea scavenger that crawls around the ocean floor eating whatever garbage they come upon. Lobster was once known as poor man’s food.

Lobster Fest is the worse weekend of the year in Anegada. All the nasty, pushy, loud, unpleasant, classless persons come up from tola with their nasty, pushy, loud, unpleasant, and classless behaviour. Thank goodness it only happens one weekend a year.

There is no such ting as a scavenger in the ocean. The sea water is a powerful antheseptic so it automatically purifies any sea food you eats.

I went last year and were not impressed. It was better supported though. They need to bring the fest alive, have a competition or something. Instead of participation. Make it easier for people to get around to the different restaurant. Those further from the dock. Include more activities persons can do over there besides walk around and eat lobster. Promote it from early, and don't schedule it when major things are happening and a few days after payday if not on payday.
