SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- A popular bar in Sea Cows Bay has been ordered closed for allegedly breaching the government’s COVID-19 control and suppression measures.

Chief Environmental Health Officer Mr Lionel E. Michael, along with the assistance of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), halted operations last night, September 11, 2021, because there were allegedly no social distancing among the well-attended crowd.

“Some of the customers were behaving hostile, cussing, using abusive language, and the owner of the bar was uncooperative. She took the ticket and slammed it on the counter. Is a good thing the police was there to give support,” Mr Michael said.

He also said on September 8, 2021, a bar was also closed in Anegada and was also fined $1,000 for not enforcing the social distancing and wearing of masks.

Next Steps

“The procedure upon issuing a fixed penalty ticket for a business place includes (1) that they close, (2) that training takes place with the management and staff of the protocols and the measures followed by implementation of the measures and re-inspection and evaluation of the business to determine whether they can open. I don’t know how long that would take,” he stated.

Advice

The CEHO left some parting advice to liquor selling establishments.

“My message to them is that bars should take concrete measures that the Government COVID-19 Control and Suppression Measures are adhered to. The hand hygiene measures, the mask-wearing measures and the social distancing measures. They have to ensure that they have them in place and their customers follow them at all times. They have to make frequent announcements on their intercom systems and these types of things. They also have to play the music low to allow for conversations.”

This is also significant as the COVID-19 variants, especially Delta and Mu, were detected in the VI.

Our government this time is right on this one.Support this move in the closed down of businesses in general that doesn't comply with wise anti-covid-19 virus protocol. Good laws in place should not be violated, whether or not they are deliberately breeched or not, here, there, and everywhere in this sin infested world.

Who don't hear feels our only problem is that we dont have enough personal to help enforce these laws. Do you think covid is playing if you believe it's a toy wait. Think about others stop being selfish. The fine should be more then they may change. 1000 maybe they can close their eyes and hand it to the powers that be.

We to lawless and out of order. This goes for all who believe they are above the law.

Think people let's try our best to do what is required of us follow the protocols we can all make it together. No need to close down the businesses but if we are not listening the government will have no choice but to do just that. The invisible enemy is parading our streets be vigilant

Attempted to close, because as soon as the task force member and the police left, the patrons that lingered around went back into Touchdown and the music was back on blasting. I do not understand how there could be a curfew which starts at 11pm, but 11pm that is when people are leaving establishments. You cannot beat a thing like that. the BVI is truly not a real place. How quickly we forget.

When she slam the ticket on the countertop, you should have slap the silver bracelets on her. Why do people have to be so ignorant and low class with their behavior? Always want to be wrong and strong at the same time. Watch her because she is going to be bold and continue to not adhere to the rules. And to you customers that was acting the fool. Drink in your damn house if you need to drink.

Yes, I agree, and every time she open up her mouth, slap her with another $1,000 dollars. The unruly ignorant customers should have been slapped with $1,000 fines also.

All Patrons present should have been fined also. The utter ignorance of them wanting to be socializing in this type of environment not following protocols. Must they go out and drink. Then they go home and spread germs or the virus to their families. Lord, pray no children in these households because they inturn spread it in the Schools.

We need to get Business zoning going. It's unfair that you have to work hard all day and get home to see bar patrons and listen to their music all night long. Thank god for the curfew that persons are able to get a little rest in the homes/apartments they are paying monthly for. Bar owners need to have more respect for the area in which they operate. Matter of fact, VIP should do an evaluation on these type of businesses. It's time we put a end to non-sense.

If you find is only $1000 and they make $10000 in overtime ,what you think they will do ? The best thing to do is revoke them trade license. If not many more will do the same .
