SETTING POINT, Anegada, VI- Swept in during the passing of Hurricane Dorian on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, clean-up exercise have begun today Saturday, August 31, 2019, on a large mass of Sargassum Seaweed that invaded the shores of sister island Anegada.

"We noticed there are a lot of Sargassum at Anegada and those are things that we will work to address," Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) said following an aerial reconnaissance on August 29, 2019.

This morning, District 9 Representative Hon Vincent O. Wheatley told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), that the seaweed issue would be resolved today and that no major problems were discovered on the island.

Earlier in the year, the dreaded seaweed had invaded the shores of the territory bringing with it a pungent odour.

The seasonal invasion of the floating algae serves as a marine habitat for hundreds of fish and turtle species but is also disruptive.
