RVIPF to honour the late Dikembe H.O. Vanterpool
Vanterpool was found unresponsive at the Cane Garden Bay Police Station, where he was stationed, on March 30, 2026. He joined the RVIPF on August 16, 2019, as a member of Cohort 4 of local training.
“Throughout his service, Officer Vanterpool served with dedication, professionalism, and a strong sense of duty, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands,” the RVIPF said in a statement the day after his passing.
Public viewing
The RVIPF is inviting members of the public to attend a scheduled viewing and memorial service for Officer Vanterpool, who was described as a dedicated officer who served with commitment and pride.
The police force described Vanterpool’s passing as a “profound loss” to the RVIPF, his family, coursemates, and the wider community he served.
A viewing is scheduled at the Virgin Gorda Police Station on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A viewing and memorial service is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Road Town Police Station, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and 12 noon respectively.
At the family's request, no floral tributes or wreaths are to be brought to the service; however, monetary donations are welcome and can be made in support of the By Any Means Basketball Team.
