ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) continues to clamp down on motorists who violate the traffic laws, disclosing that it recently took three bikes off the streets, two of which were illegal.

The new Commissioner of Police Mr Mark Collins had stated in May, "that operations targeting motorists who violate the Road Traffic Laws would continue during the summer months."

He explained that "Those operations to pursue owners of illegal bikes and those that cause a noise nuisance are specifically planned to minimise the risks to riders, the public and officers."

Monday's operation

The RVIPF said an operation carried out on Monday, August 2, 2021, by the Road Policing Unit and the Armed Response Unit on various locations around Tortola "resulted in the confiscation of three cycles -- one 1300cc, one 750cc and a 125cc."

The press release on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, said the riders whose motorcycles were not permitted in the VI were arrested.

"One was charged for driving without a driver's license and driving when not covered by third party risk insurance, and the other was discharged pending further investigation. Advice is being sought on further charges through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution. The rider of the 125cc motorcycle was reported for driving without a driver's license and driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle," it said.

I'm in Jamaica. Can I purchase the illegal bikes from the BVI government? I do have a motorcycle shop here in Jamaica. We could work out a nice deal. Will take the scooter too. Less problems for you all on those islands. Pack them all in a container. I will make the payment to your government upfront before they are shipped off. Thanks for considering.

Your recommendation is commercially sensible but quite unlikely to happen as ( and I stand to be corrected) the police cannot or would not want to appear to be taking illegal bikes off the streets for commercial reasons.
Also, if they were to put them up for sale I believe first preference would go to BV Islanders who may have a similar business operation in another jurisdiction (USVI perhaps) where the noted sized bikes are in fact legal.
But who knows? In any regards your application would be more suitably be responded to if you were to make the proposal to RBVIPF rather than on social media.

Long Look east end is full of illegal scooters. They drive the police station without fear knowing they are not insured, registered or licensed. Every day morning till evening.
