ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), Kendrick Davis, on Friday, May 16, 2025, during a press engagement, said gun-related robberies in the Territory have surged dramatically in 2025 compared to the same period last year.

He told media operatives, “In the period January to April of 2024, we had six robberies, three of which were gun-related. In that same period this year, we have seen 19 robberies — 17 of which involved the use of firearms.” According to the Deputy Commissioner, “This means that robberies have increased by 14 incidents —some 183 per cent— and nearly all are firearm-related.”

Money & Jewellery

According to the Acting Deputy Commissioner, bars, pubs, and other cash-intensive establishments have become primary targets, with offenders seeking money and jewellery from patrons. To this end, he warned that law-abiding citizens remain at risk of becoming ‘unwitting victims,’ particularly in the case of robberies.

Meanwhile, providing an update of the police's response, Davis disclosed that since January, the RVIPF has ramped up its proactive measures, including enhanced nighttime patrols, strategic deployment of officers, and collaborative investigations with both local and international partners.

This, he said, has led to tangible results. “We were able to recover nine firearms — one more than in the same period last year — and 397 rounds of ammunition, which is 194 more than we recovered last year.”

Additionally, he recalled that just a few weeks ago, Patrols thwarted a robbery and recovered a firearm with six rounds of ammunition, and earlier this year, “we recovered 200 rounds of ammunition during a routine stop in the Cane Garden Bay area.”

RVIPF, according to Davis, also “recovered 40 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $4 million. We have also recovered over $20,000 in bulk cash. Several pieces of evidence have been recovered, and a number of individuals arrested — some of whom remain in custody.”

You all should expect that. How much is minimum wage? Poor Philippines getting used and abused by the people here. Trust me when I say it's going to be a normal thing soon. Tinted windows that you can't see into them when they're passing by, scooping the business places. Only only thing I don't agree with these criminals is they are robbing from the poor. Rob the politicians because they are robbing from you all day long

      Really, Philippines get freaking paid.

The Filipinos do not care if their wages are minimum wage or below that just as long as they have all their people employed whilst others suck salt. Don't feel too bad about them because they definitely don't care about you. They can eat Rice and Eggs for all three meals, tell the employer all sorts of lies about you, rob the employer blind because they put them, stupidly in charge of their funds. So please don't worry about them because i can bet my last $10.00 that they are in a much better position than you are. Hopefully, the Government will recognise that the Laws relating to Guns, Ammunition and possesion of same need to be much more stiffer. Perhaps, we need to implement hanging because i know those whose livelihood is only being a criminal would think hard before they proceed to even think about doing evil. The Government of thr Federation of Trinidad & Tobago are presently lobbying to pass laws to re-implement Hanging. I do hope more Caribbean Countries, including the Territory of the Virgin Islands will follow suit. Its time we take back these islands. We can no longer sit idly by and let our children fall victim to these criminal elements nor can we watch whilst our vehicles and homes are broken into because some fool thinks he/she should habe what we have worked so hard for. These young people need to use their talents to do something else and learn to say NO to wickedness. Parents should not stand by and allow their children to run amok and cause harm to their Community. If my child comes home with something i feel he couldn't afford, i would ask him to take it back to wherever he got it. Anyways, he knows what time it is in this household because i do not play. He knows whatever he wants, he has to work and save for it. If he has a friend who i feel isn't going to be a positive influence, they aren't allowed in my home nor in my company. I would try to speak with that friend and hope, he can make a change but if i recognise his friend loves to be around negative influences, i strongly reccommend to my son to cut ties with his friend. Anyways, my son has learned to pick and choose his friends, both male and female but i do still keep a close eye on him. He will forever be my son and i his parent, to steer him where light and love lives. Blessings and love to y'all!

The way serious firearms are available to the most basic low grade criminals is really serious. I thought the recovery of firearms was really great work; but perhaps it also means that the illegal guns are everywhere.

We need to stop and search every vehicle with tinted windows, remove the tint or break the glass if the tint does not come off. Stop and search all scooter riders without helmets or registrations plates and routinely block the bridge from Beef Island and search all vehicles coming from Beef to Tortola. Same can be done at Frenchmans Cay. Then have police and Customs boats always on station by Norman Island and Great Thatch to do regular stop and search of vessels moving in those waters. Boat movements from ST Martin side can easily be monnitored by radar and intercepts routinely sent out. Time to get started. And let's not use barges again to chase them down!! Ha ha. Fools came up with that idea!! But someone made a lot of Easy money.

are now risky places to visit due to these repetitive robberies. Perhaps it's time to close all indoor bars in the BVI.

So only outdoor bars on the beach and elevated lookouts!

Lets see what they gonna say when we stun gun one of their wicked @$$. It seems like one cannot go out and have a drink, well in my case an Ice Tea (lol), some conversation and relaxation with our friends. We can't even try to do so at home either, because they even rob us there. Hopefully, the Churches, beaches and our daily morning/evening walks remain safe. Be cautios everyone! If you see something, please say something. The life you safe might not only be yours but mines and others as well. We are our brothers & sisters, keeper. God bless y'all.

will there ever be a CoI into the reason why so many firearms are in this territory

will there ever be a CoI into the reason why so many unsolved crimes

Or the CoI is simply for a particular set of people

Unfortunately this is the result of slowing down/hindering the drug trade. Drug runners are not interested in real and productive jobs, only fast cash. Robberies are safer than running drugs right now
