ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) have recently completed an Armed Response Training program, along with a D.A.R.E Program, which ran simultaneously at the Road Town Police Station over the last four to six weeks.

A release from the force today, July 19, 2023, detailed that the in-house Armed Response Training delivered by Inspector Carty, Sergeants Roberts, and Winter, consisted of nine officers and covered a wide range of topics such as weapon handling, precision shooting, and house clearing to name a few.

Police said the training enabled the officers to gain pertinent skills and further equip them when handling reports that require armed officers.

According to information, the additional Drug Abuse Resistance and Education (D.A.R.E) program, delivered by Police Constable Zamfir Adams, consisted of nine Community Policing Officers.

Topics including bullying, drugs & gang violence covered

The Release detailed that police were provided with knowledge on topics such as bullying, saying no to drug offers, gangs, and gang violence, and more sensitive topics such as; good and bad touches, good and bad secrets, just to name a few.

The officers were also trained on how to bring across the different subject areas successfully and skillfully; while keeping the children entertained and so intrigued, that they want to continue learning more.

Deputy Commissioner of Police St. Clair Amory in his remarks, congratulated all officers for completing the program along with training Instructors for an outstanding job in their delivery of the training material.

“It is not always the case that the organization would be able to employ trainers from overseas, so it is commendable that we have our own who are equipped to deliver these training materials to officers.”

Mr Amory encouraged the officers to ensure that they utilize the skills gained throughout the training to help push the organization forward.

The Governor and Commissioner of Police needs to stop this arcade mentality of not allowing each police officer to walk with a gun. All police officers need to be armed at all times in this day and age.

All the h*** of the force is doing is putting us to fight each other even in the force while he and his UK officers take home the big salaries for destabilizing the place by going after innocent people in the name of fighting crime.

Well, I thought all this time the people were trained to do all these things only now to find out it’s not so. So, what the police doing at the station? Still playing farm vill. Ah ha. Does the island have bom squads, anyone trained to diffuse a bom, you cannot wait for this to happen then send someone group of police to be trained. How about negotiating a hostage situation? With all the millions of dollars and there is minimal training. These youngsters not playing. Get the force equipped.

The guy in the photo simply was not listening to the trainer, he in full view of the other shooter to slam him one. Always cover yourself Officer.

I’ve noticed that the youngsters display a total lack of respect for the law. Saw a few videos of one police officer addressing traffic violations and the way the individuals committing the offenses, spoke to the officer shows we have allowed lawlessness to roam rampant for far too long.
It will be a huge challenge for our Officers to get the respect they require, in order to get some discipline back. Certain don’t want the lawlessness to get any worse. We won’t be able to go anywhere without looking over our shoulders with fear that someone will create some sort of violence, endangering our lives. Is this how we want to live?
As a community, we must not turn a blind eye on wrongdoing. We all must play a part in bringing our country back to one of peace and tranquillity. I remember the days when we could leave our windows and doors open and unlocked and never worried about anyone trying to steal. Now we have to have everything under lock and key. We need to change this.

Them never had to deal with a serous situation where it involves what ever training they did in decades. And what kind of training involves the community being able to see what there doing just passing minding your business oh look there's police right there training. If we had live in a society that was really unpredictable in terms of danger they wouldn't be there in that easy visible area. There would be emergency personnel coming to help them. I just being real
